Sneak peek of Crazy, Cupid, Love!
December 31st, 2009
Hey everyone! It’s almost 2010! Insert in “Time moves so fast and blah blah blah” speech here. But hey time does move fast! So fast that sometimes you blink and miss out on some preeeeeettttty rad things. What am I blabbering on about? I’m talking ’bout the best Wedge music videos of 2009! They’re kooky, crazy, and wild! They’re bizarre and weird! Oh so wacky! And we love them just the way they are. Here’s a slice of the best!
Dan Deacon - Paddling Ghost
Ghosts are cool. Puppet ghosts are even better. Add on an eye patch and you’ve got the coolest ghost around. Now mix in a pirate skeleton puppet and a sea adventure and you’ve got yourself a bunch of dance-y fun all set to an amazing Dan Deacon song. Let it be known that this falls Dan Deacon concert was also a fav of 09. Keep on paddling my ghosty friend!
Arctic Monkeys - Cornerstone
Simplicity is often underrated. This music video simply features front man Alex Turner in front of a white background singing to us, as he sports a pair of big headphones and holds a recording device. Yet you can watch it over and over and not get bored. The little details of Turner walking back and forth are what make this video. It just seems so honest, and it all blends with the song perfectly. And that’s what a good music video is suppose to do right?
Harlem Shakes – Strictly Game
A. This song the catchyiest of catchy.
B. Their name alone makes me want to dance.
C. I enjoy trickery.
I don’t want to give it away, but this music video is super dupa cool. It for sure tricked me the first time I saw it. These boys are pretty clever. Now go watch it! And then we shall discuss!
Fever Ray – Seven
Honestly? I don’t really know what’s going on in this music video…but I like it! Perhaps some kind of farm voodoo? What I really want to know is who is that old lady and can we be friends? She seems like the coolest grandma ever (even is she does seem a little strange). Also where do you think she got her hat? I’m looking for a last minute New Years party outfit.
Noah and the Whale – Love Of An Orchestra
Another old person! This grandpa like guy seems soooo much nicer though! Look at him dance! I want to be this old man when I grow up! This music video (which is a part of Noah and the Whale’s The First Days of Spring film) is the happiest of happy and fits the song perfectly perfectly perfect! Smiles all around! Joy to the world etc!
Friendly Fires – Kiss of Life AND Skeleton Boy
While Kiss of Life is on a nice hot beach, Skeleton Boy is in an all black setting with white snow like stuff falling. That being said? Both of these videos are dance fun party times. Good job Friendly Fires. Good job.
Vampire Weekend – Cousins
So much fun camera trickery in this! Shoes turning into album covers and album covers turning into lists! Different band members turning into other band members! All in an alley way? Alley ways have never been so upbeat and cheerful! Who else is excited for Vampire Weekend’s new album out in 2010?!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll
Karen O can wear anything, and this time it’s a red shiny dress with clear puff sleeves that she rocks as she sings “Off with your head. Dance till you’re dead.” Whateves you say Miss O! At the beginning of this video you watch it and you’re like “Oh cool the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are preforming in a dimly lit space. How ominous.” Then you’re like “WHOA IS THAT A DANCING WEREWOLF!?” Yes. And he’s got moves like MJ. Also when this werewolf kills blood turns into red confetti. So you know it’s all good. Also mentionable? Zero.
Lenny Kravits remixed by Justice – Let Love Rule
The best ending sequence and credits to a movie that has never been made. These rolling credits aren’t just any credits though. Oh no. They’ve got a mind of their own. I wonder if the names in these credits are real or fake…
Matt & Kim – Lessons Learned
This music video is 4realz. Matt and Kim 4realz went to New York’s Time Square and 4realz took their clothes off. Then they 4realz got arrested. Did I mention that it was the middle of winter? They must have been so chilly! Check out this interview where Matt and Kim talk about everything that went down! Another fav concert of 09!
