Hey - here we are at the new page for our blog and we’re all blue and stuff. Neat!

It was quite the moment today when I launched a browser and the new site came up as my homepage. It’s so clean and shiny and new! No more looking at a black background all day.

In other news…
I saw a silly movie called ‘The Sweetest Thing.’ It made me laugh. I liked it. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was no RUSHMORE, but I managed a few giggles. Surprisingly Matt Brett liked it too. Surprising, for 2 reasons. One, the studded curmudgeon hates everything. And two, we have the exact opposite opinion on so many things that it really is a rare occurrence when we agree. For example, right now he’s asking why no one replied to the email he just sent us about elephant balls. Sigh…’cause it wasn’t funny.

We both recommended the movie to Ryan. Who knew he would hate it so much? We thought it was funny! So Ryan’s asked for an alternate recommendation so that we can redeem ourselves. Not that I need to redeem myself Mr. O’Brien, but here are 2 things you need to check out:

Watch: Y Tu Mama Tambien
Listen: ‘Turn on the Bright Lights’ - Interpol

How’s that Ry?

Thanks KelstarElectro punksters Le Tigre have takin’ over the streets of Toronto with the cover of this week’s Now, out today.  I can’t wait to see them live this Sunday soir.  Kathleen, Johanna, and J.D. tour with an all grrl line-up and crew, and remix rock and roll with their DIY work ethic and radical cheerleading like nobody’s biz.

My favourite band site at the moment is the beautiful bjork.com.  Link from my girl e.  Cute band alert (Sassy mag. reference in case you didn’t catch it): Quarashi.  Icelandic fusion.  Much just got their new video for “Mr. Jinx” this week.  Check their OR.

Psychoanalysis Hello Kitty. Let Dr. Kitty assess your stress levels.  She seems to think I’m as cool as a cucumber.  Yummy!

Time to head over to a Much year end rap party hardy.  Sophia.  Where’s your head at?

I had a great time at Warped Tour…so many hot tattoed punk rock boys (okay I know Lars wasn’t there…but he comes to mind when I think hot+tattoed+punk rock) how could you go wrong? The playdead crew had a bit of trouble on the way up..and back. The giant hearse (that’s the company car!) overheated on the way up. Luckily we knew a lot of people headed to Warped, who saw us on the side of the highway and helped (and a bunch who just drove by and gave us the finger! Gotta love those nihilistic punk rock buddies)

My fave part of the day was watching Death By Stereo on a really small stage. The circle pit in front was outta control! I also enjoyed sets by Jersey (they always put on a great show) and Bad Religion (legendary…but I had to leave before they finished). The only dissapointing part was the perf by N.E.R.D. …I was so hyped to see them, but then they turned out to be kinda boring. I just think it’s lame when bands say that you have to be high to really enjoy their music (if the music is good it should give you that feeling) I don’t like it when anyone tells me I have to be…well anything. C’mon Pharrell, you’re obviously a smart dude, what was goin’ thru your brain underneath that mesh cap?

Miss JennRock was kickin’ some rad b-girl moves at Warped…breaker! breaker! take’r! take’r!

Given the current development of the new site, I’ve little time for crushes save what awsome aural stimuli I have pumpin’ from ye ol’ winamp… which by the way, at this very moment is The Electric Soft Parade’s “Holes In The Wall”. However, as of late I’ve had some bizarre resurgence of classic rock constatnly streaming from my headphones… last week I went and bought The Best of Queen box set (which is uber rad) and yesterday I paid a trip to the local record shop and pur-chased myself The Very Best of Supertramp (much to the dismay of the rest of TeamD). I’ve also managed to get my grubby lil’ mitts on the new Squarepusher that is yet untitled with no release date in site. But I gotta tell ya if there’s anyone reading this who likes Tom Jenkinson and his machines you’re in for a BIG surprise! A well mixed and balanced double disc set that includes the pusher himself singing… that’s right signing on many a track!

Anway, that’s enough blabber from me. I gotta get back to the new site. You don’t ever realize how much data you have until you try to move it!

And with that I pass the mic to senior 2.0 yet again and ask him this; How do you feel about female punk rock singers? ;)

Okay, I thought I was over Joe McIntyre..until I found out he was coming in for MOD and Amanda and I totally freaked out and got our picture taken with him. It brought back all those memories from grade 6 when my older sister Kym had to bring me to the ‘Magic Summer Tour’ (I actually have that tour book). Man that was a great show.

I’m happy to say that I’ve moved on to more respectable crushes these days. I just can’t get enough of Scott Shriner =w=’s bassist. Did you know that he used to play bass in Vanilla Ice’s hardcore band? Hmmm, so maybe I haven’t moved on to crush on someone more respectable…but then again I did go and see Vanilla Ice’s ‘To The Extreme’ tour (Kym had to take me to that one too) the year after the New Kids show, so what does that make me? A not-so-respectable-former-new-kid- vanilla-ice-lover-who-currently-has-a-huge- crush-on-scott-from-weezer….that’s what.

Hey Ry who you crushin’?

Oh Matty Bratty…lemme tell ya a story about a band that had huge success in the 80s. I know you don’t remember that time, but they also had some hits in the 90s too…so you might know them. Actually, I hear they’re putting the finishing touches on a new album as I type this!

Their name is Duran Duran. And when I was 10 years old, I was convinced that I would grow up to marry noneother than Mr. John Taylor himself. The 13 year age difference, didn’t phase me. I was sure that once I was legal, it would be straight to the altar!

This fandom in my formative years knew no limits. I kid you not when I tell you that I even had Duran Duran and John Taylor earrings. From its peak at age 12 though, the obsession has been in steady decline as real live boys replaced fantasy pop star boyfriend. And, of course, as knew fantasy pop star boyfriends caught my attention.

I have to confess, that now, years and years later - I’ve come to realize that I might not grow up to marry John Taylor. And I almost feel guilty that I’m not more disappointed.

Although I have the nostalgia of a first crush when I think of him, today I found the official John Taylor website and it didn’t make me swoon as it once would’ve. I giggled.

Don’t misunderstand - I don’t mean that in a bad way at all. I still think of him as a cutie and any listen to ‘Seven and The Ragged Tiger‘ makes me feel like the crush was just yesterday. And hey, I went to see Sugar Town!

But now I look at a grown up John Taylor with my grown up (sorta) eyes - and realize - I’m totally over him. ;)
Hey Kel, are you over Joey McIntyre yet?

September 28, 1972… that’s when dear old (?) Gwyneth was born. That makes her older than me but I’ll let you grrls pull eachothers hair out about it on your own time ;)
As for road games as a child one of my favorites was “sleep til the next truck stop“. Now as an adult…. and doing much longer road trips such as my most recent one moving back to Toronto from Los Angeles via “truck-loaded-with-everything-you-own“, I found my self quite often playing “was that a dragon that just flew in front of the car or should I stop at the next motel”. That and “laugh myself to pee singing along to the D“. The first one wasn’t really a hit with the girlfriend… you know, it being 3am and we’re 200 miles into the desert with no towns in sight. However the latter seemed to rejuvenate the drive everytime.

And speaking of road trips, I’m now on the hunt for an ’80’s model Shorty van. It will be a tiki van and it will sport the necessary options; bed in back, fold out tiki torches and a giant antenna topped with a racoon tail (faux of course). This puppy will see A LOT of road and that’s a promise.

How ’bout you 2.0… have you done a lot of raod trips in your short years?

Wednesday, August 7th, 2002

On our drive down to Ottawa we passed this new casino. In the 5 seconds it took to drive passed it, we experienced the following range of emotions:

- Confusion. Shock. Surprise. : “Ohmygod - what’s that?!”
- Excitement. Elation: “Pretty lights, gambling - a casino! Let’s go!”
- Laziness. Apathy: “Oh s***, we’ll have to turn around somewhere…ah who cares. Maybe another time? Nah, forget that junk.”

It’s always fun to go back to Ottawa for a few days. It’s great to catch up with old pals and hang out with the folks. Except after a day or two we were all sniping at our parents like we were 12 yrs old again. “Why can’t I have the air-conditioning running at high 24 hours a day? I do it at home in my apartment?!” Stomp, stomp, stomp.

By the third day, we were itching to leave again and truly enjoyed (grr) the bumper-to-bumper traffic all the way back to Toronto.

Best bickering between us 3 girls on this trip?
“Gwyneth Paltrow is so young.”
“No she’s not.”
“Yes she is.”
“No she’s not.”
“Well she’s younger than me.”
“No she’s not.”

Ahhhhh. We’ve got to come up with some better road trip games to amuse ourselves. Ry, you know any?

Woooo! I had the best weekend ever, so I just totally had to jump right in here and share. Friday I went to see Paul Westerberg. It was a pretty chill show, except that right in the middle of a slower song, his guitar cut out a little bit so he just smashed it into pieces. It was funny, but a bit excessive. Saturday I headed up to my friend Brad’s cottage and jumped in the lake. Sunday I went to see the movie Signs. I was sooo scared! It was amazing! Go see this movie! Finally Monday, a friend and I headed down to the Area:2 festival. We didn’t have tickets, so we were planning on buying some cheap tickets and chilling on the lawn. Then, as luck would have it, a friend of mine (who was doing lighting in the DJ tent) was hanging out at the front gates and just happened to have 2 extra (his brother didn’t show up)front row tickets!(thank you little brother!) Being front row for Blue Man Group, Moby and BOWIE is an experience I will never forget. I just kept on saying ‘I can’t believe this is happening!’. Man, I’m a lucky girl.

Hey Soph, how was your long weekend in O-town?

B-Ho? You there? Hmmm… oh well.

I’m crazy stoked about a tour that’s passing through town that I just heard about on Tuesday… The almighty Warp Records is bring a handful of stupendous artists from across the pond to provide a few lucky cities with intense aural stimulation. The tour is featuring on of my personal favs Chris Clark who’s just recently signed with Warp and who’s debut release, Clarence Park, has been causing quite a stir. I’m just hoping that the show even comes to fruition considering that last two times an IDM show passed through town they were cancelled.

And in other news, the month of August is finally upon us in fine heat smothering form… both my dog and I spent the night waking up every five minutes so that we didn’t dehydrate. I tell ya… at this rate the poles are definitely gonna flip!

I hear Matt 2.0’s got a new arrival on the way… why don’t you share it with the rest of the class!?
