You can always tell how busy we are by the blog. Wow. Another MMVAs. I was just thinking how its like the VJs’ prom, except we don’t get the summer off. And no slow dancing. And no limos. But people drunk and people makin’ out! So I hear … It is truly amazing to be part of such a BIG TICKET event. Just three years ago I had to sneak myself in. Too true. I love doin’ it up for a special presentation.
I live for the behind the scenes stories at Much. MMVA highlights include Ms. Murder Inc. being overheard describing the event as so ghetto, and needing some avon. Hah!
Congrats to Team Digital for digitizing all that is MMVA. 2.0 - where you at? Question. So when did summer show up? I think I own like 2 pairs of shorts. Shorts are hard to rock.

Last night was awesome.
And now it’s time for bed.

I’m so excited for the MMVAs! They’re only 2 days away, and I have no idea what i’m going to wear! Oh well, it’s not like anyone’s going to be looking at me…unless I wear this! I know I’m not a dude…but I think it just might work!

I’m looking forward to Disturbed’s performance at the MMVAs! Frontman David Draiman is really serious about metal, and so am I. I think we could be best friends.

You know what I’m excited for? Sean Paul’s live performance!! I can’t wait! Both “Gimme The Light” and “Get Busy” gimme the fever and get my ass shaking.

The one thing I can always count on during the MMVAs- regardless of who’s coming or performing - is watching the stunning transformation of our city block into one of the most outragous spectacles in the city… or country for that matter, that we’ll see all year!

Man oh MAN, Jarman! Have you got just the right guy for disgusting happiness! I mean - ask anyone - “Disgusting Happiness” is my middle name!
Why am I disgustingly happy? Well, mainly cause the 2003 MMVAs are around the corner - literally. There’s this giant stage set up for the big day (this Sunday, June 22!) in the parking lot right where a bunch a Beemers were a few days ago! Getting SOO excited. The best part: I get to hang in the VIP tent during the show - I’ll be moderating the live MMVA chat, so if you’re in this neck of the digital woods, be sure to stop on by and say hi.
Of course, you can come by in person during the show - your 5000 closest buddies will already be packing Queen Street West, so you might as well - and you can try shouting my name to get my attention. Maybe I’ll hear you. (Yeah right!)
Besides MMVA fever, I’m feeling a bit of New Music Overload. Matt 2.0 has been introducing me to all of his favourite bands…most of them I’ve never heard of and some of them are great, but there’s just so much to listen to, my head’s about to explode. My faves so far: Boysetsfire (who I get to see at Lollapalooza next month!!!), Finch & Alkaline Trio. Check ‘em out - you won’t regret it.
I’m out now - gotta go finish sewing my ceremonial MMVA toga together.
Pebble ‘n’ tumble!

Oh, my weekend was quite fine Nicole! I kicked it all off with a little Electric Circus goodness on Friday night, and then went out for a night of dance hall reggae madness on Saturday. It was sort of by accident that I ended up at a club in Kensington Market, but definitely had some enjoyment dancing until the wee hours of the morning with my friend Kim. Of course, no night is complete without a run for nachos and poutine afterwards. Somehow food always tastes better at 3am.
My Sunday was filled with arts and crafts, which has made me feel very accomplished, in a weird sorta way. You see, I have recently moved, and despite painting my walls asparagus green (with bok choy accents) I still need some art work on the walls. A quick trip to the grand ol’ discount palace, and I was able to frame some Gumby and Pokey figures in a shadow box. Yeah, I know. I have far too much free time on my hands.
But, I still need to further decorate my home. This has left me searching the info’mation supah highway for sources with art that fits my budget. First up, I checked out a little Gris Grimly. Grimly was born in 1775, is a native of Los Angeles, and apparently lives in a crypt. This sorta sense of humour is completely my thing, and his illustrations for children’s books are… well, they’re just very me. Too bad it’s outta my price range, but hey, I can dream.
Not one to give up, I’m gonna head over to the local book shop, and pick myself up some of the books he’s worked on. A little slicing of the pages, and bingo! Insta-cheap-o-art!
While you’re decorating your home, it’s always important to have some good music. Lately, I’m digging the latest track from BT. You might not have heard of him, but you’ve heard his music. Despite his status as an underground DJ, (depending on who you talk to), he was the producer behind *NSYNC’s “Pop”, and he’s scored a bunch of movies, including Go and The Fast And The Furious. Check out his new track, “Somnambulist“. Yes, it’s disgustingly happy, but hey, sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.
Anything disgustingly happy in your life Justin?

I say…I have fond memories of both decades. For the 80s and the majority of the 90s I was in school, and certainly had my share of fashion dos and don’ts. Sure I’m prepared to revisit some of those styles, cause now I have the advantage of hindsight. And really, aside from fashion, when do you get the chance to relive a certain era over and over again, but this time do it better?
That being said, the only place I ever want to see flannel again is on my winter bedsheets and/or pyjamas. But I still like plaid.
Last Wednesday I went to see Coldplay and realized that I have come to take them for granted. Bad me. I wasn’t planning to go to the show. I’ve been lucky enough to see them a couple times and also, whenever I listen to them I get sad! Rush Of Blood is one of my favourite records from last year, but as I’ve whined before, the sad songs are so good that I can barely listen to them without bursting into tears. I know, such dramatics. It’s pathetic, really. But one of my Coldplay-obsessed friends managed to score a pair of tickets through her boss and kindly invited me along! So I went, prepared to bawl at the first strains of The Scientist. Surprisingly, I didn’t! The show was fantastic. Chris Martin is an amazing front man. After the show I couldn’t believe that I had ever questioned going in the first place. I’m clearly a big loser.
Ozzfest was that same night and you were there, Nicole, weren’t you? Got any good stories?
Have you seen Secretary? I just saw it last night. Maggie Gyllenhaal was so great in this movie. This may be the best brother-sister acting duo ever. I didn’t think it was possible, but they have Jon & Joan Cusack beat hands-down. Justine and Jason Bateman never even had a chance…

Wow, Jen. When will plaid shirts tied around the waist and the “Rachel” haircut and rave-baggy pants and combat boots be cool again? Yikes. Good question. Right now, those things make me cringe, but the grunge look has already been recycled on the runways! Who would have guessed? I guess the 90s is when recycling became big, too.
All I know is that whenever I hear “Poison, p-p-p-poison!” it makes me wanna shake my thang. At least with music, you’re reliving your nostalgia in your brain, where everything is a-ok. Factor in fashion (and old high school photos as evidence) and all of a sudden it gets scary.
But then again, who would have thought 80s style would be anything but reviled for eternity and lately I’m all pointy shoes, plastic bracelets and big earrings. So I say bring it on, 90s! Hit me with your best shot.
What do you say, Soph?
