Spider City

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Wendy, do not read this post. This is your only warning!

What did I do this weekend? Well, apart from attending a baby shower — and living to talk about it — I killed about 150 baby spiders last night. Yeah, you read right.

I noticed the first little bugger crawling his way across my iBook screen, and then another on the wall. Upon closer inspection, I saw dozens…literally a hundred or so…scaling the walls. Where were they coming from? A quick blast of Febreze annhilated most of them but then I became obsessed and found more and more. Soon the slightest brush of hair or fluff on my shoulder sparked screaming fits as I thought I was being attacked by baby spiders.

My mission this week is to find the spider lair and bomb it with some poison. But how many eggs does a momma spider lay? What’s the life cycle of one spider? Will I ever be able to catch up with them? And why am I suddenly so itchy?

The Island of Truth goes south

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Part of the MMVA rearrange necessitated the move of “Team Digital” itself to another area of Much. The “Island of Truth”, as Sarah has affectionately renamed our oblong-shaped desk and general area, has been wheeled away from its usual chilly spot right by the window, where hordes of adoring fans (not) would bang on the window and pray that we’d take notice of them.

I’m actually liking our new space. We’re no longer isolated in the corner, easily ignored in the day to day grind. Now, people notice us, stop by and chat, and we’re included in all the jokes! I feel like we’re at the centre of all the action! I’ll be a little sad when we move back to our usual digs after the MMVAs.

It’s All In Your Head

Speaking of dancing, Mates of State decided to hold a fan contest for the new Goods (All in your Head) video. Applicants submitted video ideas and reels, and then the band selected a winner. You can watch the winning video in full here.

Even better though is the runner up’s video submission — this guy and his entourage have got some crazy, spindly-legged dance moves. The cast of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You video have nothing on these guys!

Keane ‘n Me

Monday, June 6th, 2005

Almost two years ago in November I became utterly obsessed with a then-unknown trio of young lads from England after hearing them perform in the KCRW studio for Morning Becomes Eclectic. At the time, there was no album, no single, nothing even available to download. Only two tracks to stream over and over again on their fansite and the archived KCRW performance. I was smitten. I had to hear more.

When the band finally made a stop at the Mod Club last June, I was so stoked to see them perform. While waiting in line, I spotted the guys across the street buying hot dogs and we walked over to chat them up. They signed our CDs, asked us how we had heard about them, and were so down to earth and friendly! Tonight Keane perform live on MOD and I’m really looking forward to it — they always put on a great performance and Tom’s voice is even more gorgeous when experienced live.
