What The Ho (Ho Ho)?

Monday, December 19th, 2005

santarchy.gifSo a few weeks ago when I was on my way to a house party, I saw a couple of Santas walk out of one of the townhouses on my street. Moments later, DOZENS of other Santas came storming out and they all boarded a giant Magic Bus. I’m not kidding, there were almost 100 Santas in total, yelling and hollering and being generally rowdy.

One of my friends knew exactly what this was about. Apparently there’s an organized movement of Santas making its way around the globe in various cities, and said Santas congregate at annual “Santacon” symposiums. What I witnessed may have been an example of this very thing, although the Santas I saw looked more mischevious than legit santarchy participants, who don’t cause any damage to property or get into trouble. Apparently the premise of the former group is that no one wants to arrest a Santa - so you can cause as much mayhem as you want. Interesting!

Holiday Mail

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

feist.gifIf you’re into sending holiday cards around this time of year, and you haven’t yet sent yours (you’re really cutting it close!), why not pick up some cards designed by your favourite artists (like Feist, whose card is pictured at left) over at War Child. Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan and a couple of Canadian Idol participants all took part this year. When you send yours, be a doll and actually write something in them other than your name, mmmkay? Thanks.

Simply NOT Having A Wonderful Christmas Time

Wednesday, December 14th, 2005

Whitney over at the Pop Candy blog agrees, Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmas Time” is a horrible, dreadful song. And naturally since I can’t stand it, I keep hearing it EVERYWHERE. One day, when I have to endure some sort of torture therapy a la Clockwork Orange, that tune will be my Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. I don’t know if it’s the melody, the lyrics, or the tone of the song, but there’s something about it that I just can’t stomach.

5 Christmas Songs that don’t suck:
WHAM! - Last Christmas (Jimmy Eat World’s cover is equally great)
Boney M - Mary’s Boy Child
Mogwai - Christmas Song
Olivia Olson - All I Want For Christmas Is You
The Ramones - Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)

Where’s Da Bunny?

Thursday, December 8th, 2005

stupidbunny.gifIt would appear that our ‘friends’ over at Brooklyn Bunny played a trick on us earlier today, replacing the darling Roebling with a DECOY! Who could have put them up to such a thing? All fingers point to someone in the Much environment. I’m not naming any names.

What Goes Up Must Come Down

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Oh hello there.

As you no doubt recall from science class in Grade 10 with Mr. Neal (big ups Langstaff) an immutable law of physics is “what goes up must come down”. Some people call it “Gravity”. I call it “Karma”. Especially when people don’t think through their actions clearly and end up having unintended, hilarious accidents as a direct result of forgetting this rule.

To wit, this video clip. Make sure your sound is turned up. Trust me, it is worth it. If this doesn’t make you laugh like a silly pig, then I will refund your money.

Who Will Be America’s… Next… Top…….. Model?

Wednesday, December 7th, 2005

Oh, it’s onnn tonight. Yes, a fierce battle shall enrage between Kat and I, both in it to win it on America’s Next Top Model (Cycle 5! please note that it is “cycle”, not “season”. They’ll come after you if you call it a “season”).

Kat’s got her 5 bucks on Nicole, the pretty-yet-painfully-shrieky young lass with the toothy grin. I’ve got my precious cash on NIK, the extremely adaptable, professional, model-ready woman with the impressive portfolio. Let’s give a shout out to Jess “the best”, who will be proven “not the best” when Bre totally loses. Hey, I love Bre. I almost put my money on her. But let’s face it, Nik’s goin’ all the way, man. So Kat? Jess? It’s already been broughten.

Hilary Plus Pron = Love?

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

First of all, let’s get this straight. I put “pron” in the subject line for a reason. Mostly because I think it’s a funnier word than “porn”, but also because “porn” may be slightly inappropriate.

Before you wonder what I’m yammering about and think that this is getting creepy, let’s get straight to the point. Hilary Duff, yes, THE Hilary, attended a porn premiere the other night, thus forever shattering our image of her as little Miss Wholesome. Perhaps that’s the point? But anyway, I just thought it was altogether strange, amusing, slightly shocking and entirely bloggable. Even better is the fact that the movie she went to see was called ‘Kill Girl Kill 3′, which I would watch based solely on that title and obvious linkage to KILL BILL.

Kat’s More Easily Amused Than Me!

Hi guys. I was just going through the Simple Plan Intimate&Interactive pictures to delete all the blurries I took, when I came upon this picture of Sebastien and it made me laugh. That is all.

Liz Phair vs. Hilary Duff

Monday, December 5th, 2005

lizphairvshilaryduff.gifWhen Hilary Duff’s video for “Beat Of My Heart” surfaced a couple of weeks ago, I had a sudden rush of deja vu - for once it wasn’t the melody or the lyrics that were making me nostalgic - it was the VIDEO! Where had I seen this video concept before?

Look no further than Liz Phair’s 2003 video for “Why Can’t I?” for the answer. The videos are eerily similar, in fact, a side by side comparison, as done by Willa over here shows you just how identical these two videos are. Is Hilary a copycat? Most likely not - because both videos were in fact directed by THE SAME PERSON! Looks like Phil Harder’s run out of ideas. And if you take a listen to Liz Phair’s “Why Can’t I?” you will notice that she even sounds like today’s pop princesses.

Simple Plan Flipside

Monday, December 5th, 2005

Why would I have to come into work on Sunday my mom asked (it was her birthday). “Mom”, I replied, “Simple Plan are coming in and the public needs to see it, that’s my job. To give the public what they want.” So here I am. Giving you what you want.

Simple Plan did twelve songs! Yes, twelve! That’s pretty incredible for an Intimate and Interactive.

We’ve posted a few here, but here’s some behind the scenes stuff that you can only get here. Tell a friend ;)
