News for Tuesday: Single White Glove Edition

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

* If you had tickets for one of MJ’s 50 future concerts in London, looks like you canget a full refund… or a souvenir ticket?. That’s probably not a good trade.

* In related news, Michael Jackson’s radio play has jumped 1735%, which would probably be the biggest number ever, except for the number of news stories about Michael Jackson, which is up a million bajillion percent.

* Season Eleven (11!) of Law and Order SVU: Yesssssss!

* F***ed Up Wants to push Bruce Springsteen into the Glastonbury mud!

* How this for an unlikely combination: Bob Dylan is gonna feature on a song on the new Beastie Boys album, Hot Sauce Committee. Man, that’s like putting mustard and pickles on your birthday cake. WEIRD.

* Nobody likes a tourist! Want to rid them from your photos? This application will photoshop ‘em out!

VPotW: Green Day’s “21 Guns”

This week’s edition of the Weekly Video Poll encourages you to go watch Green Day’s video for “21 Guns“, despite whatever we say. It is a pretty cool Green Day song.

That said, I can’t express enough how much the video is, well, kinda full of plot and logic holes. Like swiss cheese, or motel walls. Please consider the following:

1) If your motel room is being shot at, you should be a little more concerned that this couple.
1.5) On that note, DAMN those are some thin walls.
2) Is this a hostage situation? Is this woman experiencing Stockholm Syndrome?
3) Or were they romantically involved before, and robbed a convenience store, or something, and are now being hunted by the popo?
4) Who is that mysterious fourth man playing with Green Day, and why don’t we get to see his face?
5) Time Warp! How do Green Day and the Young Couple inhabit the same room at the same time?
6) With all those bullets flying through the walls, how come no one gets shot?

In addition, this video features some obvious product placement for 21st Century Breakdown, because I really doubt the snipers outside shot the fuse box, although you never know with walls that thin!

Provide to me some answers, Lucy: you got some ’splainin’ to do!

New Music Alert: Mew

Has anyone ever made you a mix CD where you find a new band or artist that changes your life so completely you run out and get everything that artist has ever produced, friend their myspace, and check back every few weeks just to see if they’ve updated (even though they may be “in the studio” and bands rarely update during that process)? Denmark’s Mew did that to me.

Yeah, okay, so I’m a huge geek.

Kanye’s New Stage looks amazing (and familiar)

kanyestage2

Kanye West always makes sure that he has got the craziest most mind blowing stuff. Last year he had his space themed Glow In The Dark tour. Next up he and Lady Gaga are co-headlining a tour together. And now the stage. Will you look at that stage? Actually don’t look at it too long or it might hurt your eyes. Put on some of those Kanye shades to protect them.

Insane eh? Oh man Kanye is so cutting edge. And new. Oh wait… may I’ve seen this before…
It looks like the Royal Ontario Museum. The ROM. Big ups to Canada!

rom2

But really. I love this. I’m so excited. Are you excited for this tour? I’m so excited. Very excited. Yes.

Jeff Goldblum isn’t dead!

Jeff Goldblum was on The Colbert Report last night, confirming that he is in fact alive. You can watch the hilarious clip here, where he and Colbert poke fun at how quickly the false news spread via Twitter. And all in all it is kinda ridiculous.

Virgin Fest just announced the lineup for their Alberta stop this summer. The festival will take place August 8 & 9 at Canada Olympic Park.

Saturday August 8th sees grunge rockers Pearl Jam headline the night. Other acts playing the Saturday are k-os, Thunderheist, Arkells, Mother Mother & The Cliks.

Sunday August 9th sees Canadian rockers Billy Talent, Metric & Tokyo Police Club play followed by White Lies & Shout Out Out Out Out.

Tickets for Vfest Alberta go on sale on Saturday July 4 @ 10am.

Let me know what you think of the lineup and if you plan to attend the weekend festival (of course that’s if you live in Alberta or are willing to travel)

With this announcement out of the way, it leaves for one more. The Ontario announcement, who do you think will headline this year’s festival?

NOW PLAYING: MJ

Monday, June 29th, 2009

This weekend I did what millions of people around the world also did: I listened to a ton of Michael Jackson.

I estimate that I’ve heard at least ONE Michael Jackson song every day of my life for the past 25 years. That means I’ve heard his songs at least 9,000 times (and let’s be honest: I probably listened to MJ 9,000 times between 1982 and 1985 alone). He’s everywhere. Whether I’m walking down the street listening to my iPod, or I’m in my car driving (Off The Wall is the one CD that NEVER leaves my car), MJ’s music is always easily accessible in my world.

A lil bit of Monday music news!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

* MGMT, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and a German math artist (huh?) are said to guest on the new Flaming Lips LP! Should be something crazy awesome!

*There are pianos all over London England! As part of an art project titled “Play Me, I’m Yours” pianos have been placed all over the city and anyone is free to play them. That would be just lovely if you were strolling down the street and some jaunty tune came out of nowhere! Like you were in a movie!

*Indie rockers, including Sara of Tegan & Sara, TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek and Death Cab For Cutie’s Nick Harmer, share their thoughts on Michael Jackson’s tragic passing.

* The new Most Serene Republic album titled “…And The Ever Expanding Universe” comes out July 14th! If you’re a fan check out a sneak peak full stream here!

YouTube Discoveries!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

I have wasted so much of my life on YouTube. That thing is beyond addictive. In the massive amounts of time spent, I must admit I’ve dug up quite a few internet video gems that sparkle. And I’m a kind person, so I’m willing to share them with you. You’re welcome.

Friday News: Have a good weekend :)

Friday, June 26th, 2009

* Crazy sexy British television series Skins is coming to Canada! On an exclusive channel but still!

* Twitter fight between Perez Hilton, Pete Wentz and his wifey Ashlee Simpson-Wentz. Why don’t we all be friends and hug it out?

* Cat Ladies. Soon to be my new favorite documentary.

* Katie Holmes thinks she can dance! She is rumored to be performing on So You Think You Can Dance for charity.

* Remember this amazing photo of Megan Fox graciously interacting with a fan? Kodak was offering up a reward to find the loving fan and he has been found!

* Jeff Goldblum is alive. Some pranks are a little too mean. I’m mad at you internet.

* New Fleet Foxes song! Hauntingly beautiful. I can’t wait to see them this summer at Massey Hall.
