New information related to DJ AM’s tragic death was released over the weekend. Reportedly, the DJ, born Adam Goldstein, was last heard of via a text message he sent to friends at 1 a.m. the night before his body was found. It was about his Friday night gig in Las Vegas. Friends called 911 after Goldstein couldn’t be reached around the time he was supposed to fly out.

An autopsy was conducted on Saturday night, but toxicology tests will take a few weeks to determine the cause of death. There has been speculation that DJ AM died of a drug overdose.

Goldstein had just finished a show with MTV called “Gone Too Far,” where he held interventions for teens with drug problems. While promoting the show, DJ AM reflected on the plane crash he survived with Travis Barker in September ‘08. He told the Associated Press in July, “I’m blessed. I’m alive. I’m here.” He was 36 years old.

Blink-182 played an emotional tribute to DJ AM on Saturday night. After some tearful opening words during their concert in Hartfort, Connecticut, Mark Hoppus requested that everyone take a moment of silence for their late friend. The band then dedicated the song Down to DJ AM.

The DJ whose real name was Adam Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment on Friday afternoon.

Though the official cause of death has not been determined yet, there have been reports that drug paraphernalia was found near his body. He was 36. Close to a year ago, DJ AM and Blink drummer Travis Barker were the only two survivors of a private plane crash.
