It was a night of explosive performances (literally, thanks to pyro-friendly acts Nickelback and Feist) and well-deserved accolades at the 2012 Juno Awards. Collaborative performances from deadmau5 with Lights, Simple Plan with K’Naan, Sarah McLachlan with Blue Rodeo and of course the ‘mixtape’ performance from Anjulie, JRDN, Mia Martina and Dance Recording of the Year winners Dragonette kept the crowd at Ottawa’s Scotiabank Centre on their feet throughout the night.
Find out who were the big winners and check out a recap of the night’s show under the jump!
Stadium-show staples Nickelback kicked off 2012 Juno Awards with their performance, leading the way for host William Shatner to pick up a guitar and remind Canada that Captain Kirk is also a recording artist.
West coast rockers Heldey, still high from their Pop Album of the Year win at last night’s pre-Juno celebration, took their performance of One Life to new heights with gravity-defying back up dancers. City and Colour’s Dallas Green proved why he was the Songwriter of the Year with his performance of The Grand Optimist from his 2011 album Fragile Bird. Feist took the stage as the night’s biggest winner, taking home hardware in three of the five categories she was nominated in.
In addition to performing their brand new single Summer Paradise with K’Naan, Simple Plan took home the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for their work in raising almost one million dollars for a variety of charities.
Don’t miss New.Music.Live.’s special Juno edition Monday at 5 pm ET followed by an encore presentation of the 2012 Juno Awards at 6 pm ET.
