30 Seconds to Mars cover Rihanna (and six other degrees of covers)

September 19th, 2013

30 seconds to mars cover

30 Seconds to Mars, who is no stranger to covering other artists (Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Bjork, U2), recently decided to tackle Rihanna’s hit, Stay. Singer Jared Leto adds his own rocker flare to the track with his rough voice atop the piano ballad.

With a band as experienced with covers as 30 Seconds to Mars, we decided to dive into a six degrees of separation, covers-style (much like what we did recently with Kings of Leon’s cover of Robyn’s Dancing on My Own)

There are a few technicalities in this edition, but bear with us, we’re going somewhere with these connections, which you will see at the end of the line!

To start, 30 Seconds to Mars covered Rihanna’s Stay

In Rihanna’s 2011 song, Cheers (Drink To That), the singer samples Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne’s 2002 song, I’m With You

Back in her sk8er girl days, Avril Lavigne covered Green Day’s Basketcase

Green Day once covered a classic song, putting a rockin’ spin on Bob Dylan’s Like A Rolling Stone

Another artist who has covered the great Bob Dylan is Adele, who often sings a cover of Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love

And though not a cover, rapper Childish Gambino teamed up with The xx’s Jamie xx to remix Adele’s Rolling In The Deep

Childish Gambino covered Kanye West’s All Of the Lights

And who has covered Kanye West in the past?

…30 Seconds to Mars!
