4 Years Later We Are Finally Getting #Donald4Spiderman

August 26th, 2014

Firefly Music Festival - Day 4

Everyone who feverishly adopted the hashtag #Donald4Spiderman can say that they finally got their way, almost. Actor and rapper Donald Glover will voice the role of A Spider-Man in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors.

Back in 2010, Donald mentioned in an interview that he would love to play Spider-Man in the reboot. The role eventually went to the very capable Andrew Garfield. But before Andrew’s casting was announced, Donald’s fans took the idea and ran with it, making Donald For Spider-Man seem pretty possible. Donald even mentioned it in at least two of his songs, under his rap pseudonym Childish Gambino; “Baby, I’m your hero, Donald for Spiderman” from Do Ya Like and “Couldn’t see me as Spider-Man, but now I’m spittin’ venom” from Not Going Back.

The new season of the Disney animated series is based off of a comic series where Peter Parker travels through various worlds, including one where he runs in to his half-black, half-Hispanic counter-part Miles Morales who will be voiced by Donald. The episodes will air starting next year.

The character was actually inspired by Donald and was created after one of Marvel’s writers heard that Donald wanted to play Spider-Man one day. He has even said that fans come up to him at his Childish Gambino concerts and ask him to sign their Miles Morales comics.

You can also watch Donald on Community every weekday on Much at 5:30E/230P. He, sort of, played Spider-Man on that show too:
