Wasn’t the Super Bowl great? You had all your friends over at your place, drank and stuffed your face for free, watched dozens of overly entertaining commercials and sneak peeks, enjoyed a huge half-time show…and even squeezed in time to watch the football game going on too!
But most Canadians missed out on some of the great ads (damn those broadcasting rules!). Now that all the hooplah’s over, we’re taking the best part of the game – the debut of new movie trailers! – and popping them all on Red Hot Much posing the question: what will be turning your sci-fi pages in 2011?
Battle: Los Angeles
OPENS: March 11
STARS: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez
The tag line explains it all: “when you invade a location for it’s resources, you wipe out the indigenous population“. Humans, welcome to extinction! It’s another alien invasion movie, but the stakes and premise look bigger and better than “Skyline“. It looks like L.A. is the only city left standing to defend the world against an alien attack. Let’s just hope the aliens manage to wipe-out stars like the Lohans first!
OPENS: May 13
STARS: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
When vampires roam the earth, what do you do? You don’t fall in love with them. You don’t start a war between werewolves. You call a PRIEST! And that’s exactly what they do here. An ancient order is trying to mask renegade vampire attacks until one of their own decides to jump out into the real world and stop it. Also starring the always beautiful and trained-in-the-martial-arts, Maggie Q! And for that alone, I recommend everyone see this movie!
OPENS: July 22
STARS: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving
WHOA! This movie is totally (and I mean TOTALLY) shaping up to be the must-see movie of 2011. And as far as first official trailers go, this one’s HUGE! You get to see Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull, Cap’s transition from scrawny to brawny, the creation of his iconic shield, and the hero in action in full-costume! What’s not to love?
OPENS: May 6
STARS: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman
Okay, did I say Captain America was the movie to see this summer? I think I meant Thor is the must-see movie FOR SURE! First of all the talent (mixing newbies Hemsworth and Portman with greats like Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins!). Plus if you’ve watched this trailer (over and over like I have….what?) it’s so cool to see how they’ve mixed god-like mythology with the modern superhero world Marvel is building! This is going to be so SAHWEET!
OPENS: June 10
STARS: Kyle Chandler, Elle Fanning
Shrouded in secrecy like all of his movies (Star Trek, Cloverfield) this movie looks like it could be the E.T. The Extra Terrestrial movie for a new generation. All we know is that some shocking footage was caught on an old camera…and disaster ensues! But, looking at director J.J. Abrams track record of making wicked-a** movies, this is sure to be more than just a crowd-pleaser!
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
OPENS: July 7
STARS: Shia Labeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Just when you thought director Michael Bay couldn’t pack any more destruction or explosions into a movie….we get a teaser for the third Transformers movie. And if the pulsing wasn’t enough to convince you, there’s going to be massive, MASSIVE, destruction and explosions to Earth. But the bigger question for the movie will be if fans accept Rosie Huntington-Whiteley taking the place of Megan Fox?
Cowboys & Aliens
OPENS: July 29
STARS: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde
Joss Whedon, eat your heart out. This movie fuses everything Clint Eastwood-y you love about Westerns (gun-toting, gang-robbing, tavern-drinking cowboys) with everything Star-Wars-y you love about aliens (spaceship invading, cool-gadget-wielding, world-saving battles) and you’ve got this! It does say it all in the title, doesn’t it?
PREMIERES: Fall 2011
STARS: Landon Liboiron, Jason O’Mara, Stephan Lang
Yes, this isn’t a movie trailer but it might as well be. Canada’s Landon Liboiron trades the halls of Degrassi for….dinosaurs? That’s the premise behind the new science fiction series from Fox. The world of the future has begun to deteriorate and humanity’s only hope is Declan Coyne….and his family. They travel back to time of dinosaurs in hopes of reshaping their world properly. Sound good? It sneak peeks an episode this May and officially premieres in the fall.
