Pharrell is currently dominating the music charts. He just released the video for his new single Come Get It Bae and you still can’t get Happy out of your head. Pharrell is probably the king of catchy tunes, need I remind you of last years Blurred Lines and Get Lucky. And while it may seem Pharrell is just now breaking out, it’d probably surprise you to know he has been making the hits for years. The genre-transcending artist has worked with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Miley Cyrus, even producing her Bangerz album. Pharrell has been behind the scenes, writing and producing some of the biggest hits from the past few decades. Here are 9 hit songs Pharrell helped create that totally changed music.
Girlfriend – N’Sync
Thanks Pharrell for making millions of girls lust after Justin Timberlake and want even more to be his girlfriend.
Best Lyric: “Won’t you be my girlfriend / I’ll treat you good (I’ll treat you good girl)”
I’m Slave 4 U – Britney Spears
Although this was Britney’s first song not to make it into the Billboard top 10, it’s still an iconic song and a pivotal moment in Britney’s “Bad Girl” transformation. Plus he used the number 4 instead of the word, totally ’00s and totally iconic.
Best Lyric: “Get it get it, get it get it (WHOOOA)”
Hot In Herre – Nelly
This song basically epitomizes 2002.
Best Lyric: “I was like, good gracious ass bodacious / Flirtatcious, tryin to show faces”
Rock Your Body
Pharrell and Justin Timberlake were the dream team back in the day.
Best Lyric: “Better have you naked by the end of this song”
Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani
You’re lying if you didn’t go bananas for this song. Fun fact: the song was actually written after Courtney Love called Gwen Stefani a cheerleader.
Best Lyric: “Let me hear you say this shit is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S”
Milkshake – Kelis
Pharrell is one of the people we blame for single-handedly ruining the wholesome nature of milkshakes. Besides that, the song is still awesome.
Best Lyric: “La la-la la la, / Warm it up”
Work it Out – Beyonce
Beyonce and Pharrell can do no wrong.
Best Lyric: “Treat my body like a guitar / You gotta, you gotta keep on strummin'”
Drop It Like it’s Hot – Snoop Dogg
Until last year this was Pharrell’s biggest hit.
Best Lyric: “Killer with the beat, I know killers in the street”
Wind It Up – Gwen Stefani
That yodeling though.
Best Lyric: I know he thinks you’re fine and stuff / But does he know how to wind you up?”
