9021-Oh Yes!

So did everyone watch the new 90210 last night? What did you think?

I, for one, was happily surprised. Press did not receive advance copies of the 2-hour pilot, which is usually a sign that the show is going to suck it, but somehow, in its true and utter ridiculousness, 90210 seems to shine.

One of the main reasons for this is Shenae Grimes (lil’ Darcy from Degrassi: The Next Generation for us Canadian folk). She is very charming and natural as Annie Wilson, the new girl at West Beverly High just trying to fit in. As is fellow Canadian Dustin Milligan as the rich and popular jock Ethan Ward. Overall, the show seems well-cast – and it’s nice that they throw in a nice homage to the original Beverly Hills, 90210 by casting a few high schoolers who are obviously in their 30s. (See – you’re not alone, Gabrielle Carteris).

Speaking of the original series, let’s get right down to the bizarre reunion of Kelly Taylor (the pretty Jennie Garth) and Brenda Walsh (the haggard Shannen Doherty). Dinner at the newly revamped Peach Pit? And an awkward mention of Brandon Walsh? What the hell is he doing in Belize, or Belarus, or wherever? Too funny. I sense another cameo coming up!

And last but not least, I have to quickly mention Jessica Walter as the boozy grandma, Tabitha. Hopefully she gets more screen time because she is hilarious.

So yes, the show is campy, obviously not very realistic, but overall pretty fun. I will be tuning in again – will you?

Oh and PS: Kat is totally hot for teacher. She’s already printed off a picture of Mr. Matthews and posted it at her desk.
