A Band By Any Other Name

I learned an interesting tidbit of information over the weekend while watching Nu Musik 2.0 - did you know that in Australia, The Raconteurs are in fact known as The Saboteurs? It’s because there’s already a band from Queensland that goes by the name of The Raconteurs there. Hmm. Interesting.

Some other bands that have been coerced into changing their name due to intellectual copyright stuff:

- Suede (Called The London Suede in North America because of an American jazz singer who already goes by Suede)
- Death From Above 1979 (Death From Above was already taken by a record label)
- The Verve (had to change their name from Verve because of the record label)
- Bush (Called Bush X in Canada due to a 70s Canadian band called Bush)
- The Charlatans (Called The Charlatans UK in the US because of an American band called The Charlatans)
- Caribou (had to change his name from Manitoba because of some prick who goes by the same name and wanted to sue him despite having never released anything under the name Manitoba)
