Every artist always says “it’s an honour just to be nominated”, but what happens when they actually win an award like Best New Artist at the Grammys? For some, winning means being catapulted to stardom and having millions in the bank. For others, it means one or two singles on the radio and kaput!
For the past 20 years, the majority of artists who have won the coveted Grammy have outdone themselves in every way possible. Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys are some good examples.
Take a look at part two of our exploration (narrated by VJ Scott Willats) of the past 20 Best New Artist winners and how far they’ve gone. ICYMI part one can be found here.
Update: Many congrats to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who won the BNA award last night. They now join a roster of many talented folks, but will they go as far as, say, Carrie Underwood or will they crash and burn like Arrested Development? Let us know if you think the Thrift Shop duo have lasting power.
To recap, here’s a graph showing which Best New Artist winners have had continued success after their win and who has not.
