February 23rd, 2009

It’s Cancun’s fault that I didn’t post a recap last week, but we’re back on schedule and NOT A MINUTE TOO SOON. Things are getting intense up in here….
REAL PHOTOS COMING SOON! (We hope)
Last week: Illuuuuuusions! Cloggers be gone!
This week: Two all-boy crews and two all-girl crews remain, so it’s a battle of the sexes – and the HEAT IS ON! (Is it just me or does it sound like I’m writing an actual show script?)
Anyway, it’s an interesting concept because there’s never been a mix like this in the final four and ‘Battle of the Sexes’ has been a thrilling showdown since the dawn of time. I’m pretty positive that even velociraptors had boys vs girls battles. But that’s not what’s important right now; what’s important is that the show starts with an all-crew dance number. Whaaat! Please excuse my excitement, this is all new to me. Have they done this before? It’s hot.
When the dust settles, Slater reveals the first crew safe from elimination, and once again America votes big for Quest Crew. And also once again, Fly Khicks find their fly asses in the bottom 2. Poor gals. I feel like by now, it’s pretty obvious that this will be their last episode – unless something big happens.
It’s revealed that each crew will be given a music video to emulate, and up first Quest Crew get “Forever” by Chris Brown. This is where I can start a discussion about current Chris Brown etiquette – i.e.: is it ok for radio stations to play him in high rotation right now? Is it ok for this show to use him as a dance inspiration? – but I won’t go there. The boys decide to get all glide-y with the routine, using some of Breezy’s fancy footwork. It looks nice. Of course. These guys are floating at the top of the competish right now, even with last week’s misstep – they and Beat Freaks are leagues beyond the other two crews. Shane says, “y’all are back!” Mama likes that the group had fun on stage, which made her have fun. JC also gives the thumbs up.
More results – Beat Freaks are safe from elimination and Strikers All Stars will dance for their lives. Doy.
Beat Freaks get Katy Perry “Hot and Cold”. Interesting. They decide to use baseball bats as props and Mario is all, “can they hit it out of the park?” I declare the pun OVER. Let me rephrase – bad puns used seriously. OVER. Moving on, these girls kill it with their sexy robot. Win me over entirely, why don’t you? These girls are SERIOUS. They end it with the longest headspin ever, during which the girl takes sunglasses out of a pocket and puts them on her face. WHAT THE EFF. I don’t think I’m even making sense right now. Mama loves it and gives them a standing o. JC loves it. Shane is flabbergasted and says that they should be called America’s Best Dance Crew. “I can’t even breathe right now!”
Time for the bottom 2 to step up. All Stars are up first and want to incorporate more stepping into their routine, like the olden days of three episodes ago. They get Daddy Yankee “Pose” (the video stars JabbaWockeeZ), and decide to combine stepping with top-rocking. The routine is solid but not show-stopping, and they’ve definitely done better in the past. Even Mama and Shane lay it on the line, saying that they love the crew, but this was not one of their better routines and at this point in the competition, you gotta come HARD.
Fly Khicks are up next and Wendy says, “the bottom is our home.” Awwwww! I like Wendy. Mostly cause her name is Wendy. But she’s also pretty, like most Wendys. I digress. They get Rihanna’s “Pon de Replay” and resolve to go back to where they’re most comfortable – sneaker wearin’, baggy pants saggin’. I like it, but there’s just no competing with Quest and Beats at this point. Shane says that of any crew, he’d want to do choreography for Fly Khicks, but says they gotta come harder with the routine. Mama approves that they danced in their comfort zone, but says they need to develop a little. JC says he’s glad they’re still kickin’ (haha, Mario pun WHAAAT).
Did I mention that the Fly Khicks are in the bottom 2 for a record three times in a row? You’d think that since All Stars are hitting the bottom for the first time, the judges would let them through to final 3… but nope! They send Strikers All Stars packing, and Fly Khicks will get another chance to shine next week. Even they can’t believe it.
Until next week! Go Beat Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaks!
