Adam Lambert and Phoenix will perform on the relaunched version of MTV’s acoustic concert series, MTV Unplugged.
Under the new format, Unplugged will air on MTV, VH1 and CMT and the artists will correspond with their viewers. Adam Lambert’s show will air on VH1 while Phoenix will appear on MTV. Other artists confirmed are The Script (VH1) and Reba McEntire(CMT).
The most recent incarnation of the show was online with episodes featuring Katy Perry and Vampire Weekend. This time around, each Unplugged performance will feature a surprising cover song or contradictory moment to play with sponsor Starburst’s tagline, “It’s a juicy contradiction.”
MTV Unplugged was originally launched by MTV in the 90’s and has aired historic performances by artists like Nirvana and Lauryn Hill.
Besides Lambert and Phoenix, you may expect to see some other exciting acts this time around. Van Toffler, the president of MTVN’s Music Films and Logo group told AdAge magazine, “I would love to see Prince do one, I think Gaga’s got the chops to do one and people would love to see her just sit down at a piano and sing her songs. I’ve always wanted to have U2 do one.”
