Adam Lambert Changed My Life

I don’t know where to begin this blog because I’m still recovering from Monday when I got a hug from Adam Lambert. I guess I’ll start on the day I found out I was going.

Someone told my friend that MuchMusic had tweeted that Adam Lambert would be at MOD on Monday. As soon as I found out this was true, I panicked. I think I must have tweeted MuchMusic about 10 times in caps lock, then resorted to emailing them. After that attempt, I began phoning MOD to leave a message for wristbands. For anyone who had to listen to that, I apologize! I was half-screaming, half-crying into the phone. Then I got an email saying that they would give me wristbands. Well, that was a fun moment. I was actually watching Adam on Oprah when I got this news, making it even better. I called my friend Alyssa, and she drove over and we just screamed for about an hour, in anticipation for Monday.

I immediately began thinking of Monday and what I had to do to prepare. I wanted to wear all of my Adam gear, like what I wore to the Idol concerts. The only thing I made especially for MOD was the pants, I had everything else previously. Then, I thought, some people are not as fortunate as I am to see Adam this close, and if I have the opportunity to see him, I should try to give him something meaningful from his fans. I went out and bought a scrapbook, then had my fellow Adam fans write letters to Adam. I also pasted the cover of a Top 20 Adam Lambert Fans in the World magazine by Rockstar Weekly inside the cover – because I’m going to be in it! I didn’t know how I was going to give it to him, but I was going to try with everything I had.

On Monday, we wrote our exam early (Yes, we had our exam time changed to come see Adam) and after we finished, we practically ran out of the school to drive to Toronto. On the way there, I changed into my Adam gear, all while listening to his perfect voice from one of our copies of “For Your Entertainment”. The whole way there, I was shaking and thinking about what was going to go down.

As we got into line, we played some Adam songs and huddled to keep warm. I had an Adam blanket, so that kept us rather toasty. I went around to say hi to some of my friends I know from online and the idol concert, it was really awesome to connect with people who share my love for Adam!

As we began to go inside, we got even more excited as we all took our places around the MOD studio. Even the thought of being that close was making me feel faint, but I pulled through until Adam was announced, and then I lost all control of my hands and brain. There’s something about Adam Lambert that when he walks into your eyesight, you lose your ability to function. As he sat down, I just took pictures and silently broke down while doing so. When they went to commercials, he came over to say hello, and I didn’t know what to do. I forgot about getting an autograph and I forgot to say anything of importance to him. As people went insane and rushed him, I stayed where I was, because I sure as heck wasn’t getting kicked out. Adam Lambert was 5 feet in front of me and I wasn’t going anywhere.

As the show progressed, someone asked me if I wanted to be the one to ask Adam a question. YES!!! So, they sat me directly behind Adam, and I began to shake because I knew he was going to acknowledge the fact that I existed. Before I asked the question, they showed Adam the “For Your Entertainmen”t videos people had submitted on YouTube. The first one they played was mine and Alyssa’s! Sarah Taylor noticed that I was freaking out and pointed me out to Adam, thus causing him to turn around and look at me. And that was the point at which my heart melted, and still hasn’t fully recovered.

Then, I got to ask my question, which I choked out through tears. As Adam answered, I could see the floor director motioning for me to come forward. Finally understanding what that meant, I dragged myself up and towards Adam. I didn’t know how to feel, this is what I’ve been dreaming of since I first saw him try out for American Idol more than a year ago. It’s a good thing he reached out to hug me because I wouldn’t have known what to do with my arms. I managed to remember I still had the book in my arms. I’m sure I could describe what I was feeling, but you saw most of it on TV. I don’t even know if I could find descriptive words that exist that would show what I was feeling. A few that pop into my mind are unreal, phenomenal, life-changing. I know I sound crazy calling a hug life-changing, but Adam has really changed my life. Without him, I would not have been going to University for something I truly love, film.

Thank you Adam for being so kind and sweet, and I will never stop being your fan. You are perfect just the way you are, down to your black nails and snakeskin boots. I’m sorry I forgot to wish you a Happy Birthday, you took away my mental function with your eyes. Please come back to Canada soon, you have a lot of fans here who love you and your amazing talent.
