After winning Record of the Year during yesterday’s Brit Awards, singer Adele found her acceptance speech cut short by host James Corden after the live show began to run late. Upset by the interruption, Adele left the stage, but not before gesturing with her middle finger to the cameras.
Backstage, the singer explained that the gesture was for ‘the suits’ and not her fans or the other artists in attendance. Adele told Britain’s daily newspaper The Sun, “I flipped the finger but it wasn’t to my fans. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, it was the suits that offended me.”
It’s been a month of success for Adele. Before returning to the Brit Awards stage this week, Adele took home six Grammy’s on February 12 and saw a jump of over 730,000 units sold for her album 21, bringing the total to 7,353,000 copies of the album sold in the US alone since its release. With numbers like that I don’t think I’d be flipping off anyone.
You can watch a repeat of the 2012 Brit Awards this Sunday at 7 pm ET on MuchMusic.
