I live positively by being aware of my every day choices. By turning off the lights, not running the tap, taking staggered showers, buying fair trade clothes, jewelry and coffee, recycling, and being globally aware, I have a positive impact on the world. Being an example and encouraging others to make better choices can change the way people treat our world. Sometimes the smallest things can have the biggest impact.
From being school president, to scout leader, to human rights activist, I have never been afraid to speak up against something I didn’t feel was right. I have volunteered with a group called MAD4MADDIE, led my high school’s social justice club, volunteered with my local scout group, volunteered at We Days, given speeches on being a leader and taking action, led the Hamilton (MOB)ilizers, led the Vow of Silence and Halloween for Hunger campaigns, and organized anti-bullying and homelessness awareness campaigns. By taking action I not only make a difference in the things I advocate for, but inspire and motivate my community, my friends, and my family.
I want to go to Kenya because it has been my dream for the past two years. After hearing about experiences my friends have had, I fell in love with the culture, wildlife and landscape of the country. I have worked tirelessly over the past year doing many fundraisers for Free the Children’s villages in Kenya and I would love to be able to see the results of my efforts. Since I am studying International Development and Globalization, the opportunity to learn and have first hand experience with the local people in Kenya would be a huge motivation in my studies. Being able to go to Kenya with Me to We would truly be a dream come true.
