It’s a new month, which means a crazy amount of new releases coming our way! September is shaping up to be a super busy time, though, with a number of our personal faves releasing new albums, so to help you sift through the massive list, here are the top eight albums we can’t wait to get our hands on!
Drake – Nothing Was the Same
This one’s a no-brainer. Drake is Toronto/Canada’s pride and joy when it comes to rap and hip-hop and with 2011′s Take Care, the rapper set the bar pretty high for himself. Nothing Was the Same was originally slated to come out on September 17th, but has now been delayed till the 24th.

Janelle Monae – The Electric Lady
Janelle Monae knows how to put on a spectacle and trust us when we say that her upcoming album, The Electric Lady, is one heck of a spectacle. Filled with theatrical numbers and the same spunk that we saw on her hit single, Tightrope, The Electric Lady is going to be one electrifying listen that should be on everyone’s list of albums to pick up next week.

The Weeknd – Kiss Land
The Weeknd first burst onto the scene with a trilogy of mixtapes, a trifecta of work that really gave us a definitive sound and image of Toronto mastermind, Abel Tesfaye. The Drake collaborator returns now – funny enough, the same month as Drizzy! – with his follow-up, Kiss Land. Expectations are high, but something tells us that he has what it takes to match or surpass his previous releases.

Chvrches – The Bones of What You Believe
Scottish trio Chvrches have only been together for a little over a year, but they’ve already gained a significant amount of buzz. With their infectious electro-pop melodies, as you can hear on their latest single The Mother We Share, this band’s songs will surely be stuck in your head for days. Their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, will be out on September 24th.

Icona Pop – This Is…Icona Pop
We’ve been in love with Icona Pop ever since we heard their breakout hit, I Love It. With a flare for shout-out-loud anthems of fun and friendship, we can’t wait to bust out their upcoming album, This Is…Icona Pop, and sing along to every song with our BFFs.
Kings of Leon – Mechanical Bull
It’s been three years since we’ve heard from rock royalty, Kings of Leon, and boy are we glad to have them back. The band first reappeared this summer with their new single, Super Soaker, which has since burned up the charts. Mechanical Bull, the band’s follow-up to 2010′s Come Around Sundown, will be out on September 24th.

HAIM – Days Are Gone
HAIM is the fam-jam band to trump all fam-jam bands currently out there right now. Three sisters who divide up guitar, bass, keyboard and vocal duties, HAIM (the sisters’ last name) is primed to take on pop and rock charts everyone once their debut album, Days Are Gone, comes out on September 30th. Their penchant for ridiculously catchy melodies and spot-on harmonies makes us not only want to get up and sing along, but also grab our siblings to join in.

Lorde – Pure Heroine
The surprise hit of the summer, New Zealand songstress Ella Yelich-O’Connor a.k.a. Lorde first caught our attention with her single, Royals. Now that we’re hooked on the 16-year-old songwriter’s Adele-esque vocals and minimalistic mash-up of R&B and pop beats, we’re just craving for much, much more. Pure Heroine, Lorde’s debut album, will be out on September 30th.
