Last night in Vancouver, chaos erupted when a barricade broke immediately after Alexisonfire began playing.
MuchMusic spoke to AOF’s lead singer George Pettit about the incident.
“The crowd seemed pretty raucous,” he said in a Skype interview. “Everyone was singing the national anthem, I think people were really fired up about the hockey win and the gold medal. We came on stage, started the first song and within the first 10 seconds the barricade basically collapsed.
“We stopped playing immediately and told the crowd to step back. There was nothing else we could do. Security came in, paramedics helped kids who were injured and we addressed the crowd that we couldn’t play the show, that it was completely unsafe. We went over to the medical tent and talked to the kids for a while.”
Pettit said it was an experience he hopes he never has to go through again.
“It was a pretty nightmarish experience. I’m not gonna lie.”
He added that he and his bandmates hope to give the injured fans some VIP treatment next time they hit the city of Vancouver. “We got the info from all the people that were injured and we’re gonna try to make sure they watch the show from the stage next time. We’ll be sure to make it up to them as best as we can.”
