Last night’s free Alexisonfire concert at David Lam Park
in Vancouver ended abruptly after barricades in front of the stage collapsed, forcing multiple injuries to spectators.
An unhealthy mix of AOF’s post-hardcore ruckus and the overwhelming Olympic spirit caused hundreds of people to surge forward only 30 seconds into the band’s set, knocking down the barricade and forcing bodies on top of one another.
As many as 20 people were hurt, with ten sent to hospital thankfully with non-critical injuries.
The band posted a statement on their website that reads:
We’ve always taken great care in the safety of our fans and are saddened that this happened. We want to thank the security team, paramedics and police for their quick reaction. We especially want to thank our fans for co-operating and not making a bad situation worse. We are working directly with the production coordinators to review the events.
Alexisonfire were performing as part of LiveCity Yaletown, a special Vancouver Olympics 2010 concert series.
