Well, maybe not the real Alicia Keys and Chad Michael Murray. But, the characters they play in Key’s latest video for Un-Thinkable sure are in lurve!

Un-Thinkable follows an inter-racial couple and their struggle against societal racism through the last six decades. In each decade a similar scene is played out. The couple, though in love, are constantly having the racist attitudes of friends, family members and strangers reinforced. The video begins with Murray’s character walking into the middle of town and getting into a confrontation with a man that we later learn is Keys’ brother. The video ends in present day with the two men fighting, cementing the fact that unfortunately, in many cases, racism is as alive and strong as it was in the 1950s. The subject matter is without a doubt pertinent to Keys, who was born to a white mother and black father in the 1970s.

Keys and Murray show a definite chemistry in the video, even when Murray is rockin’ a mullet. I have a feeling that One Tree Hill would have been much less popular if he had that hair for all seven seasons. Unfortunately, Keys co-writer on the song, Drake, does not make an appearance in the video. Minus one point for Drake-less-ness.

Movie/music video combos can sometimes take on too much and not present a complete and coherent storyline. Un-Thinkable thankfully does not fall victim to its limited time constraints and delivers a video that delivers an impact that is as emotionally charged and moving as the song itself.
