Alright 2012, What Movies Are Worth My Moolah?

January 1st, 2012

Harry Potter is done, Twilight is finishing…so what where are we supposed to be entertained with, take our dates to, or enjoy good times with friends? Here’s a couple of OMG-I-CAN’T-WAIT-FOR-THESE films you may have heard about that are opening this year. You might find a good way to have a guys night out, put your arm around that hottie you’ve been eyeing, or see your favourite characters hit the big screen live-action style!

Check these babies out:

The Hunger Games – March 23rd
It’s the next big thing since Harry/Hermione/Harry or Bella/Edward/Jacob. Meet the Katniss/Gale/Peeta triangle! It’s a love story set in a hopeless future where children are forced to battle to the death. Until Katniss enters the ring. She’s a game changer, and her actions spawned two more novels and hopefully two more movies! The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson.

Mirror Mirror/ Snow White and the The Huntsman
It’s the battle of the live-action Snow White adaptations. And just remember, these ain’t your father’s Snow White princesses. These are battle ready women who will fight for their right to live against the evil queens. But which movie will prove to be the better story? That’s for you to decide. Mirror Mirror stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer. Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.

Mirror Mirror opens March 16th

Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st

American Reunion opens April 6th
You know how all of you guys are about sex, food, fun, adventure and did I say sex? Well, the sad news is we all grow up sometime, and this is what it might look like. The group we loved to laugh at during the first three American Pies (and spin-offs) are back for their high school reunion. And it doesn’t look like they’ve grown up one bit! The film stars Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan and Sean William Scott.

The Avengers opens May 4th
All of those superhero movies over the last four years (Iron Man, Iron Man II, Hulk, Thor, Captain America) have all been leading to this! It’s the super-hero team-up we’ve been dreaming of since we were kids and it’s FINALLY gonna hit the big screen. This will definitely be a turning point in super-hero movies to come – if they can build a successful shared-movie-universe, then really, what can’t they do? The film stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd
It’s a reboot of the Spider-Man movies, taking Peter Parker back to high school, and even before the days of his true love Mary Jane. Instead, we’ll see him struggle with his new superpowers alongside Gwen Stacy and Dr. Curt Conners. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans.

The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20th
What’s not to be excited about? The final film in the gritty and dark Batman series as reimagined by Christopher Nolan? The introduction of Selina Kyle into the mix? The fact the timely Occupy Wall Street movement may or may not play a part of the movie? There are so many reasons to see this movie, so make sure you’re free opening weekend. The film stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 2 opens November 16th
Bella’s a vampire. Renesmee Cullen has been born and is being hunted. It’s Edward and Jacob’s last chance to protect the woman they both love (but Edward got to marry!). It’s eleven months away, but it might as well be a million months. Oh Twilight, what will we do when you’re done. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

And they don’t even have a teaser trailer for us yet!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens December 12th
It’s the mother of all prequels. The story that takes place before the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy brings back all the magic we loved the first time around – the quest, the one ring, hobbits, elves, dwarves, dragons, Gandalf and Gollum. It’s the first of two parts, with the second film concluding December 2013. The film stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Richard Armitage.
