Bullying has always been a touchy subject and of course we’ve heard anthems from Kelly Rowland, K’Naan, and Nelly Furtado addressing this issue. Now Canadian songstress Alyssa Reid, is setting aside her club hit sound to tackle the issue. In Talk Me Down, she sings to perhaps an ex or maybe her haters, and tells them that they can’t touch her. They can’t talk her down to where they are because she’s already above it all.
The video tells the story of a guy who keeps on getting pushed around by an omniscient bully, whether it be through hate messages in texts or online bullying. The guy is pulled downwards by this negative force until he gets pulled back up by the hands of his peers. The video also shows real quotations from kids who feel bullied or repressed making this a very relatable video.
We end with the message that “If you’re not a part of the solution, you’re part of the problem”. This is a resounding plea from Reid to stand up, help your peers, and bring them up when they’re down.
