America’s Best Dance Crew 2 [Episode 6]

July 28th, 2008

This week’s episode of America’s Best Dance Crew is the “Bring The Beat” Challenge, where the dance crew stage is covered in set pieces and props which the crews have to use in their routines – the set being a High School Gym. They did this challenge last season as well, but then they used an outdoor urban setting. It was a great challenge then, will it be equally as great this week? Well, let’s find out!

But first – some results! SoReal Cru and Fanny Pak are safe, sadly putting Supreme Soul in the dreaded Bottom 2.

Fanny Pak
Song: N.E.R.D. – Spaz

There is no doubt that this group would do well with this challenge – we have seen them use many props and set pieces already in some of their past routines. Plus they are great at becoming characters and telling a story. The idea of the PE students rebelling against the big, mean coach is a good one and Fanny Pak pulled it off, even though the overall routine was a bit more spastic than usual. I’ll still stand by it.

Shane Sparks says there was too much going on, but liked it when they got back to the choreography; Lil Mama says it wasn’t their best performance, but that they definitely brought the beat and wants to see the fanny packs be put to use; JC Chasez says they usually own the props, but that this time they were maybe owned by the props a bit.

SoReal Cru
Song: Eve – Tambourine

SoReal Cru were given marching band instruments, but told that they couldn’t actually play them. It’s a difficult challenge, but they rose up to it. They found the potential for beats in instrument cases and the shuffling of sheet music, which is all very creative. The choreography was pretty good too, with nice touches like being manipulated by the beats of the bass drum. Like Fanny Pak, it was a bit manic, but overall it was well done.

Lil Mama says they always have a smooth way of being hard and very detailed; JC says they used the props well and made it seem musical, but there were some moments the dancing was a bit stiff; Shane says he likes their attention to detail and their ability to groove.

More results! Boogie Bots are safe and (once again, surprisingly) SuperCR3W are in the Bottom 2.

Boogie Bots
Song: Common ft. Pharrell – Universal Mind Control

Ha! This may the first time that I’ve actually thoroughly enjoyed and been thorougly impressed by a Boogie Bots routine. Although I know they are good, for some reason or another, I’ve always found them a bit… forgettable. But this week they KILLED it. They used their props well, they were engaging, they used the stage well, and that Flashdance ending was hilarious. I finally see why Boogie Bots rock.

JC says he thought the volleyball spike and Flashdance ending were highlights, but the beginning didn’t make sense; Shane says this was one of their best performances; Lil Mama says she enjoyed it, but it only picked up and got exciting halfway through.

And now for the Bottom 2…

Super CR3W
Song: Busta Rhymes – Don’t Touch Me Now

Why is this crew in the Bottom 2?! This routine was pretty damn good – from the use of the basketballs, incorporating more choreography than usual, some pretty impressive tricks, and energy to boot. This crew knows how to put on the show and never do the NOT deliver. I do have a soft spot for Supreme Soul though…

Supreme Soul
Song: T-Pain – Church

Why do THESE TWO CREWS have to be in the Bottom 2?!!! Supreme Soul ALSO just knocked it out of the park (rink?) with this hockey routine of theirs. Extremely high energy, this crew always hits hard and puts on a good show, this routine being no exception. So who is going home…? Can’t they both just stay?

Shane says Super CR3W was totally blew him away and thought it was beautiful; Lil Mama asks “America, are you serious?” and says both crews are fantastic and says Supreme Soul are so athletic and animated and are on point; JC says Super CR3W had a great growing performance and loves how they approach their stunts with no fear and Supreme Soul got the concept of the challenge very well and appreciates their great attention to detail.

Super CR3W are safe! So SADLY Supreme Soul’s banner must fall…

It’s a sad week on America’s Best Dance Crew.
