America’s Best Dance Crew 2 [Episode 7]

August 5th, 2008

After last week’s tearful goodbye to Supreme Soul (tears so many that a salty moat had formed around the Dance Crew stage), this week’s episode of America’s Best Dance Crew starts off with a much needed group number to lift some spirits.

Since this week’s episode is a tribute to Missy Elliott, the woman herself shows up centre stage from a pit of fire for a performance of Shake Your Pom Pom. Impressive entrance, but she’s lip-syncing! Fail! The crews dance up a storm though, so it ain’t all bad. And her magic trick exit wasn’t too bad either. Oh Missy… this episode’s for you, tricks and all.

Results! SoReal Cru are safe, meaning Boogie Bots are in the Bottom 2.

Meh. No huge risks, no surprises. I mean, don’t get me wrong – it was danced well and that head roll trick off the top was definitely cool. It was a good routine, but I feel it didn’t necessarily bring anything new to the table. Personally, it didn’t excite me.

Shane Sparks says he loved the intro and thought they took it to a whole new level; Lil Mama says they were very creative and that their choreography is always on point; JC Chasez says the choreography was neat but that there wasn’t a lot of difficulty; Shane and JC then argue like a married couple; guest judge Missy Elliott says she enjoyed it and loved the intro.

More results! SuperCR3W are safe, which means Fanny Pak are in the Bottom 2.

Now this is what I’m talking about. This routine was high-energy and, after two weeks or being in the Bottom 2, you can tell that these boys are now fighting harder than ever. They had their usual stunts, incorporated more dancing, and basically just put on a great all-around show. Why America hasn’t been voting for them, I still don’t know, but they are definitely one of the top crews in this competition.

Lil Mama says it was crazy and that she was entertained the whole time; JC says it was an amazing performance – exciting, athletic and together; Shane says they laid it all out and danced their butts out; Missy says she was excited from beginning to end and ended up making her video “look whack.”

I have to say that I do think Lil Mama’s comment last week about her not getting excited to see the Boogie Bots was a bit harsh. I mean, I’m personally not the biggest Boogie Bots fan, but that comment was a bit uncalled for. Now that being said, their routine this week was good. Their costumes were amazing (I was saddened when they took their helmuts off near the end), and some of their moves (especially the wiggle step) were pretty cool – much different than what we saw from SoReal Cru and Super CR3W. But worth winning the competition? I don’t think so.

JC says the choreo was a bit off at times, but overall it was a good performance; Shane says there wasn’t one move in there that says they should be on the show and that it was terrible (ouch!); Lil Mama says she doesn’t take back her comment and that she didn’t get excited, but that they do have exciting moments – she wants them to step it up; Missy says they could’ve been a lot tighter and that they need to come on stage leaving any drama behind.

Fanny Pak
Song: Get Ur Freak On

Now Lil Mama might not get excited for Boogie Bots, but I definitely get excited for Fanny Pak. They are consistently creative and theatrical, this week’s routine being no exception. They made use of the stage, used their costumes and props effectively, and danced the shit out of their choreography. They are obviously the ones who will be sticking around this week.

After a standing ovation, Shane says they were creative and that he loved it; Lil Mama says the illusions they created were off the chain and that they represented their name right; JC says it might’ve been the best number of the night and that overall there was so much to applaud at; Missy says they were amazing from the beginning, and not just the dancing but creatively.

And the crew who gets to stay and compete in the Final 3 next week…? FANNY PAK!

Called it!

So after some hard knocks, the Boogie Bots are going home… and of course there are more tears.

(Um, is this season sponsored by Kleenex?)
