America’s Dad Takes On American Idiot

America’s dad Tom Hanks wants to turn American Idiot into a new movie. He and his production partner Gary Goetzman are reportedly in the advanced stage of adapting Green Day’s album for the silver screen. Hanks is also rumoured to direct and Julia Roberts may star.

The album American Idiot tells the story of three boys from small town America who all take different paths– one joins the army, one stays home with his pregnant girlfriend and one moves to the city.

The album has already become a stage musical which was a huge success in California and opens on Broadway later this week. Hanks and Goetzman were behind the ABBA musical Mamma Mia!
