And Justice For All

October 19th, 2007

Last night’s Justice set blew every other show I’ve seen in 2007 out of the water. Hands down the best live gig I’ve this year. And definitely in my top ten ever.

The French electro/house duo of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay were in town supporting their album , alternately known as Cross.

The duo was unstoppable when they finally hit the stage at 12:30, an hour after their scheduled start time. The crowd was incredibly restless and Circa, the newest weekend hotspot for dance music aficionados, was absolutely RAMMED to capacity. From the moment the pair fired up their gear, it was point-of-no-return dance mayhem. The guys played a mix of their album tracks, mashups and remixes of some of their most famous tracks.

It was an incredible light show and the sound system at Circa was at its absolute max. I felt like the volume between the between-set music and Justice’s set was cranked to 300%.

Highlights:
- a super-extendamix of The Party f. Uffie
- Phantom and Phantom II, which were absolute monsters in a live setting
- full D.A.N.C.E. singalong
- mashup of the sirens in Gravity’s Rainbow with Never Be Alone
- a remixed version of Metallica‘s Master Of Puppets as an encore. Watch a version of this recorded at last week’s show in San Diego.

The band is known for having a huge cross on stage during their sets (check out their album cover) and someone managed to sneak a huge replica into the venue (I’m so surprised they weren’t turned away – security was really on their game last night) and it was bobbing its way through the crowd the entire night.

I only wish they’d continued to DJ afterwards…set was far too short! The guys play two back to back shows in Montreal tonight…I imagine it will be equally ridiculous.
