Greetings from Cobourg, Ontario!
I’m currently writing from the comfort of the Comfort Inn, while watching the newest episode of South Park with Krikit and Merch Mike.
Tonight we showed the Park Playhouse what was up, and shattered their merch sales record. We’re riding high and rolling deep today people!
Aside from the show tonight, we had the liberty of telling some locals about our first ever senior citizen riot at a Faber Drive show…
Basically, we had just set up for sound check in a small Ontario town and were about to start running some songs when JP, Krikit and myself decided to play Iron Maiden. This didn’t help the fact that we were unknowingly irritating a group of seniors playing cards above the venue. Once we got everything up and running and were seconds away from starting our real sound check, a man in or past his golden years strolled through the venue doors rather unimpressed looking. When someone’s first words are, “Does it HAVE to be that LOUD?!” you know you’re in for another one of those days. Sound check being an everyday occurrence that nearly every band goes through, this one in particular was going to change all that.
After the man walked into the room and declared his anger to all of us, a venue employee stepped in and tried to convince the man to let us finish our sound check and so that they could back to their card game and we could stop annoying them. This didn’t work at all. After fists flew, and police escorts were made, we can now say that we’ve driven senior citizens to cause near riots due to our sometimes poor choice of cover songs during sound check. I’d like to clarify that we don’t plan to cause these type of problems, or ever offend any one, especially our elders. This was just plain crazy, and none of us knew what to say or do. We laughed it off for the rest of the night and carried on with what was a great show. After all, none of us had every witnessed a senior attack a venue employee before. Unfortunately nothing nearly as exciting happened to us the next day, but I’ll take that as a positive thing after that debacle.
Well, I’m going to follow Krikit’s lead. He is passed out on one of the hotel beds in full show attire. Late night TV isn’t very enticing so I think I’ll opt for a bag of Doritos from the vending machine and the comfort of my own hotel bed. Maybe tomorrow’s trip to yet another small Ontario town will bring more unexpected happenings and memories that will last a lifetime.
‘Til next time, avoid organized senior’s card games.
