I remember the first time I saw Andrew W.K. live. My boyfriend Matt and I had tickets to see Danko Jones at the Docks, and Andrew W.K. was opening. I was so excited to see him! Matt, on the other hand, was dreading it. He hated AWK. We’d even had “heated conversations” on the topic. Our difference of opinion went that far.

Then Andrew W.K. hit the stage. Matt was converted for life. If you’ve never seen him live, you don’t know what you’re missing. It is the best live show you’ll ever see in your life. I’ve seen him live at least five times (although I’m pretty sure there’s at least a sixth that I can’t think of right now), and not once have I looked at my watch during one of his shows. And that says a lot, because I’m old and I get tired easily…hahaha!

It’s been at least a couple of years since he last came here. I’m not sure what happened, but his last album was released in Korea and other Asian countries months (if not longer) before it was released in North America (thank you eBay for letting me get my fix!). I’ve been going nuts wanting to see him live again. Those 5+ times were within a two year period, so you can imagine a two year+ drought was agonizing!

Yesterday morning, there was a message in my Facebook inbox from Kat telling me that he’s coming back to Toronto FINALLY to the Sound Academy (formerly The Docks - how fitting)! I’m so pumped! I listened to Andrew W.K. on my iPod on my way to and from work today, and it was all I could do to not pump my fist to the beat (party hard party hard party hard…) as I walked along. I’ve been really listening to the lyrics so I can pick which line to write with a sharpie on a white shirt - I’m thinking either “You Will Remember Tonight” or “I Wanna See You Go Wild”.

ETA: As I was writing this, I saw on awkworld.com that it’s a “solo appearance - DJ set”…here’s hoping it’s not a letdown!
