The emotional and expressive Arcade Fire are going to be scoring the new movie from Richard Kelly, director of the moody and expressive films Donnie Darko and Southland Tales.
Apparently this news wasn’t supposed to become common knowledge just yet (why, I don’t know), but it seems no one let music producer Markus Dravs know that crucial tidbit of information. Whatever the case may be, on his website under the “currently working on” heading, Dravs had posted:
“Having finished Coldplay’s forthcoming album Viva La Vida - now off to Canada to work with Arcade Fire on a soundtrack for the forthcoming Richard Kelly film.”
That update has now been taken down and has been replaced with the more abstract, “how many balloons it would take to make an elephant fly,” but too late, Dravs! We’re on to you…
The film is called The Box and it stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden and it should be released later this year.
UPDATE: Arcade Fire’s lead signer, Win Butler, has come forward to say the following:
“Hi everyone. Just to let you all know that (Internet-based fact checking aside) Arcade Fire is NOT doing the soundtrack to any film. We are all off for the summer, writing songs, reading books and keeping our plants alive. Regine, Owen Pallet and I may do an instrumental piece or two for Richard Kelly’s new movie… we met at a show this year and hit it off, but we are not planning on doing any major work for a while, and this would not constitute a soundtrack or a release. Can’t wait for all you non-music stealers to hear the new Wolf Parade record.”
