Chart Magazine has news about a new solo album from Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan called Hourglass. Dave says the album will be more 'electronic-influenced' than Paper Tigers, his first solo album, and carries a theme of running out of time.

Before I go on...for the record (in case my adoration wasn't already evident), I am a colossal Depeche Mode fan. But the fact remains that the man behind every brilliant note and lyric in Depeche Mode's illustrious career has been Martin L. Gore. Dave is the mouthpiece - the sexy, tireless frontman who interprets and conveys this ball of genius in the studio and in front of thousands of fans. He is not, however, a songwriter! The songwriting that he's co-contributed (not even full credits!) on previous Depeche Mode albums has been mediocre at best (I Want It All and Nothing's Impossible come to mind from the last album).

The last time Dave rolled through Toronto in support of Paper Tigers, I couldn't make it to the show. Recall that it was August 2003 and the SARS debacle was in FULL FORCE in Toronto. The very same day that Dave's show was scheduled, half a million fans trudged their way to SARSstock, a massive benefit concert in Downsview Park. Nothing, not even Dave Gahan himself, could have convinced me to brave public transportation on that day! If tour dates are announced for this upcoming album, I would love to go...if only to see Dave strut his stuff one more time!

Hourglass is being released this October.
