News Exclusive: Led Zeppelin Tour Toronto This Summer

May 17, 2008

Everyone knows about Led Zeppelin's reunion show in London, UK this past December. Naturally, it was both magical and nostalgic. And a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity, right?

Maybe not.

So NME confirmed late last year that Led Zeppelin had plans to go on tour sometime in 2008. Well, a reliable source just gave me a scoop on some Toronto dates. Apparently these dates will be announced shortly...but now you know.

No fancy tour of the U.S., but Toronto will have FOUR dates at Skydome/Rogers Centre this coming August. AMAZING. Hardly any bands play Skydome anymore because it's such a juggernaut of a venue and impossible to fill unless you're, well, Led Zeppelin. Or maybe Backstreet Boys.

Stay tuned for an official tour announcement, but for now start saving your dollars (cause you KNOW it's gonna be expensive) and practising your Ticketmaster skills (cause you KNOW people will be flying in from all over North America to be here) for these amazing shows.

This is not true. You've been sold a bill of goods.

Posted by: Dan at May 17, 2008 05:47 PM

Sorry Kat, its just not true. Its school holidays in August and we never tour then.

Actually just joking!

We are in the middle stages of securing the venues. Can't wait to get out and see all the fans!

Posted by: Jimmy Page at May 18, 2008 05:49 PM

ok a half hour away from me that would do if it were true

Posted by: butch at May 18, 2008 10:59 PM

well if it is true, then it will be at the end of augest or 4 dates not together. If you look at the events calender, for augest its pretty full. The blue jays , argos and even buffalo bills have dates that month. So if true then there are only a few days left, augest 2,3,11,12,13,16,17,18, and the 24 thru the 31

Posted by: orkosrevenge at May 19, 2008 10:45 AM

4 nights at Madison Square Garden? Sure. 4 nights at the "Rogers Center/Skydome"? Ain't happening.

Can this really be true? I hope it is, 'cause I wasn't around when Bonzo was alive.

Posted by: Samantha at May 19, 2008 03:21 PM

Well, I can tell you it's not our band booked for those dates. But I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan, and I really hope it's those guys. If so, I'll be there for sure! But won't Robert still be on tour with Alison Krauss? Sounds fishy.

Posted by: Nick Carter at May 19, 2008 03:54 PM

Not if *I* have anything to do with it!

Posted by: Robert Plant at May 19, 2008 06:11 PM

Bob, if you're not around I'll be waiting in the wings.

Posted by: David Coverdale at May 19, 2008 07:56 PM

I knew it was to good to be true

Posted by: Senester [TypeKey Profile Page] at May 20, 2008 01:18 AM

Robert, you've got to "milk" our partnership dry first. Then go off and play with your retirement buddies.

Posted by: Alison Kraus at May 20, 2008 02:26 AM

wtf no-one invited me again

Posted by: Ghost of John Bonham at May 20, 2008 05:51 AM

I'll keep an eye on those bloody bootleggers.

I'd rather smoke me old man than watch *them* wankers flailing about in their dotage!

You stole my band Keef....

Posted by: Ghost of Brian Jones at May 20, 2008 09:47 PM

Much as I would like this story to be true, I must tell you that, regretably, there are no firm plans for a tour at this time.

We've all agreed that it might be fun to play together again but as you know, Robert is off on his own tour with Alison Kraus until at least August, so we'll have to wait and see what he feels like doing after that. I do hope that we can have a band meeting before then to at least discuss the possibility of doing another show or two. And maybe put to rest those recurring rumours about which band would open for us before, say, the Spice Girls jump on the bandwagon and claim that they are waiting for a call from Jimmy. Here's a hint: We don't use opening acts. So I'm afraid any hopes of a quadruple bill featuring Velvet Revolver, The Cult, David Coverdale and Led Zeppelin will be dashed.

But I would certainly love to play with Jimmy, Robert and Jason again.

Actually the rumours are not entirely wrong. However the city is wrong. The actual city is the same one that Led Zeppelin kicked off two their world tours. Vancouver is the city where Zeppelin wil be doing 4 shows. One at Pacific Colisuem, one at General Motors Place, one at BC Place, and the 4th will be a spot at a festival somewhere near Whistler. Jimmy Page actually owns a house in West Vancouver, as well as the remaining band members own land on Keats Island.

Good news as the ticket price will be $100 for all the tickets. There will be no corporate tickets as 99% of all tickets will go to the public.

Extra safeguards against scalpers will be taken. Only credit cards within a one hundred mile radius of the venue will be honoured on the first day of sales.

Ticket distribution will be a lottery. When you arrive at the venue, you present the credit card that was billed for the tickets. The tickets are printed and that is when you find out the exact location of your assigned seats. This will also deter scalper's profit margins as no one will know the exact seat location until the ticket is claimed.

Once you have your ticket printed, you will directly enter the venue.

That's no secret as that is exactly how the lottery was drawn for the O2 show. Kudos to Led Zeppelin sans John Bonham for being aware of the scalping issue and nipping it in the bud.

I live in Vancouver but have some trouble believing somthing like this, even though bands/artists like the Police, U2, Janet Jackson and Aerosmith have used Vancouver in the past as a 'launch site' for tours or studio work. The festival near Whistler could be the Pemberton fest but that is in late July so not going to happen thereat least.
