Last night, I had the fortunate opportunity to finally see French songstress Yelle live in concert. The event was originally supposed to take place at The Great Hall, but thankfully it was changed to the The Opera House, which in my opinion boasts the more superior sound.
The night started out with the ultimate openers, vitaminsforyou, a progressive Toronto-based Electronica/Pop band. Their ability to mix addictive beats with accessible melodies only guarantees that they'll get the crowd hopping - and last night they certainly did just that. The crowd, which was quickly getting larger and larger, was eating it up, so when Yelle finally hit the stage, everyone lost their shit.
Now I don't speak a lick of French, so I didn't even worry about trying to keep track of a setlist, but all I know is she sounded amazing. Backed by the talented production team of Grand Marnier & Tepr, she easily worked the party-ready crowd into a frenzy, so that by the time she belted out Je Veux Te Voir, the area close to the stage became a fully-clothed dance orgy of sweaty limbs and happy beats.
Everyone was clapping along, snapping along, and basically doing anything else Yelle asked of us. Easily one of the better concerts I've seen as of late and I can safely say that it was a good time had by all.
She hits Montreal on May 2nd, so if you don't have a ticket yet, you know what you gotta do.
