Matt Wells: Huey Lewis

All right, can I just say Huey Lewis is seriously one of the nicest dudes I have ever met. Aside from the fact he invited the whole crew to his home in Montana to film part of our show, we actually spent the night there. The guy PUT US UP in his home. AND, AND!!! He called my dad who is a big fan and always has been!
So the Jambalaya he cooked was the best thing I have ever eaten... I NEVER eat sausage (no jokes Romeo), I honestly have JUST started eating meat again after like 2 years, but I wasn't gonna say "dude, thanks for cooking me dinner but I don't eat sausage", but for real, it was SO GOOD.
Something that didn't make the show but I thought was super interesting was that Huey has never watched the movie American Psycho with Christian Bale which uses Huey's song Hip to Be Square.
The story goes that after agreeing to be in the film the producers asked if Huey would let them use his song for the soundtrack. There was no real other actual songs on the soundtrack, just remixes and scored film music... so Huey and his manager thought it wasn't really a music CD and didn't want the song to be included because they felt maybe it was just gonna be a tool to sell copies and make money and they really didn't think that MUSICALLY it was a good idea.
So they said no.
What came after was a press release from the Movie Company leading to MANY MANY articles like this: (here) saying things like Huey was SO outraged by the violent nature of the movie and how his song was portrayed that he refused to be on the soundtrack. Huey says that's BS, he had read the book and knew what was gonna go down in the movie, but they used this false claim that he was "disgusted" with the movie's violence just to get some extra press for the film. He was pissed at this, so hasn't ever watched. That's CRAZY! I told him he HAS to watch because it's a pretty bad ass scene.
What else can I tell you... uhhh, he knows the REAL Big Lebowski, loves the Coen Brothers and thinks Radiohead think too much of themselves.
Go listen to some Huey Lewis.
