Arctic Monkeys 5 Star Performance

Touring in support of their third album Humbug, the Arctic Monkeys put on an amazing show last night to a sold-out crowd at the Kool Haus. The Sheffield quartet were on their A game last night which resulted in a show that was one of the best of the year so far.

With the lights dimmed and background music playing, the guys came out to a roaring crowd and opened the show with Dance Little Liar followed by Favourite Worst Nightmare single Brianstorm. With the crowd already in a frenzy after only two songs the guys then played the lead single off Humbug Crying Lighting with some help from the crowd of course.

Having already played four new tracks from Humbug, the rest of the show was a good mix between their old and new material. Of course the older material really got the sold-out crowd going, especially I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, Fluorescent Adolescent and Still Take You Home. However similar to the White Lights show on Saturday, the final song of the entire show (505) really drew the most involvement from the crowd with everyone singing “I’m going back to 505 If it’s a 7-hour flight or a 45-minute drive“.

Other new tracks they played that are definitely worth a listen if you haven’t already include My Propeller, Red Right Hand a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds cover and Cornerstone.

Now with three albums under their belt, Arctic Monkeys are at the point where they can start to experiment with new sounds and Humbug is a prime example of that. It’s a little darker than their previous albums and it’s really noticeable live. This isn’t a bad thing either, when a band grows and matures so does their audience and I think that the Arctic Monkeys captured that to a T. Last night’s show was the best I’ve seen these guys perform and they are a must see for anyone who hasn’t seen them yet.

  1. Great review! I think it is a really impressive 3rd album. I am glad that the band is starting to mature. I think other bands that have such instant success like them usually don’t take risks and then the music suffers and they just fade away but I think arctic monkeys are here for the long haul. Also I noticed you spelled the second track Brainstorm but it is actually Brianstorm referring to the character “Brian” in the song.

  2. the best concert ever if you missed this performance you should be sorry.
