Arctic Monkeys Live Review

On Friday night I saw Arctic Monkeys for the fourth time. I actually can’t believe that in two short years they’ve been to Toronto four times! Alex & crew were in fine form once again - the sold out Kool Haus show was TEEMING with rabid fans by the time Geoff and I arrived, precisely one minute before they hit the stage with If You Found This It’s Probably Too Late (from the Brianstorm single). It was a sweaty mess of epic proportions.

If you’ve seen Arctic Monkeys before you know they play a TIGHT set with very little banter - they just hammer through the hits (which are all fairly short) and are usually off the stage within 35-45 minutes tops. I was actually shocked that they played for 75 minutes - and that’s after playing twenty songs!

There was one moment between Balaclava and Fake Tales Of San Francisco where there was NO pause in between songs - they just played them straight through like a medley. Incredible!!

People in the crowd were super rowdy (bordering on obnoxious at times) and totally into it. At one point just before I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor, you could hear Jamie play a few notes that sounded like Oasis’ Live Forever, who you may know are one of Arctic Monkey’s favourite bands/influences. From that moment on everyone was demanding to hear them play it! From most of the reviews I’ve read, everyone agrees that the show was incredible, but the crowd were a bunch of a-holes. And so was security! It seemed like every few moments I was being belly bucked by a giant beefcake security guard shoving his way through the crowd.

True to form there was very little chit chat and no encore. No 505, either, which was disappointing, but we DID get to hear Leave Before The Lights Come On, which is a GREAT song.

Here’s a pic of the setlist.

Oh! And I also just read that Fluorescent Adolescent is to be the next single off the album! Not my top pick (it’s not explosive enough) but still a cool track.
