Each and every year, there is this tradition where some Photoshop wizard concocts a very convincing poster announcing the line-up for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. It usually fools enough bloggers and publications into drooling over these fictitious bills but now, we potentially have one for 2011 that seems not only too good to be true, but actually pretty accurate.
If you consider who has released a popular recent record, who is on the verge of releasing a new record and who is set for a big tour, this poster (see below) is pretty on point. Headliners: Arcade Fire, Daft Punk and Kanye West? Why not? Arcade Fire are certainly on tour, Daft Punk is currently teasing us with the thought of one and Kanye is definitely overdue.
The supporting cast is also pretty convincing too. While another obvious fake is circulating suggesting that The Postal Service is playing (something they’ll never do again) ahead of Ms. Lauryn Hill, this one seems legit. The Strokes, Pulp, Neil Young, Interpol, Beastie Boys, Duran Duran, Bright Eyes, Scissor Sisters, Big Boi, Feist, The Roots, Broken Social Scene, The Chemical Brothers and PJ Harvey are all active in some way, leading me to believe this could very well happen.
But if this is for real, isn’t this arguably the best line-up Coachella has cooked up yet? It definitely captures the state of music right now at the beginning of 2011 to a tee. And if it’s not, well, why the hell isn’t this what they’re going after? Sometimes the phonies do it better…
