Are The Kardashians Running A Sweatshop?

December 29th, 2011

They’re not having a very merry Christmas thanks to a new article in Star Magazine. The magazine conducted an investigation and says the Kardarshians are using a number of illegal factories in China to manufacture their clothing lines. The magazine claims the working conditions are poor, with dirty, stuffy rooms and high temperatures making people sick. Even worse, the magazine says children as young as 16 are working there for just $1 an hour! And they’re being forced to work up to seven days and 84 hours a week! (A regular work week in Canada is 40 hours).

The rumours have gotten so bad the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights has launched their own investigation into the Kardashians. A spokesperson for the organization says these factories are like “prisons.” “If you get permission to use the toilet, you get four minutes. If you’re not highly specialized, you cannot even go to bathroom. Security guards watch over the workers and they are stripped searched every time they leave the factory, while cameras watch over the workers every move.” Yikes!

But is this “Kardashian Sweatshop Scandal” even true?

Kris Jenner has released a statement saying she had no knowledge any of this was going on. She says, “As far as I know the factories that are used to manufacture the Kardashian clothing and shoes have nothing terrible going on at all and the factories are very well policed and meet factory standards.

Kris says she’s so furious at these “false claims” that she’s planning on suing Star Magazine for ruining the clothing line’s reputation. She says she’s also going to talk to her contacts in China to make sure the workers are treated fairly and being provided with adequate money and support.

What do you think of this “scandal?” Are you on #TeamKardashian or do you think there’s some truth to Star Magazine’s story? Tweet us your thoughts @trendingtheshow.
