Au Revoir Simone Concert Review

Heather, Erika & Annie of Au Revoir Simone

So last night a friend of mine took me to go see one of his favourite keyboard bands, Au Revoir Simone. Honestly, I didn’t know much about them - had only heard a bit of one of their songs (”Sad Song”). Turns out they were a charming trio of girls from Brooklyn, NY who adorn themselves with vintage dresses, leggings and hairbands. Being oh-so-cute and two-stepping to their own songs, these girls won me over instantly.

Too bad the concert was at Toronto’s Lee’s Palace. While Au Revoir Simone were busting it out on their various Korgs and Rolands and other electronic instruments, the thundering bass was sometimes distracting. But their ethereal voices and fun in between-song banter (”We are the princesses of Lee’s Palace”) made up for the occasional sound issue.

If Au Revoir Simone come into your town, and you are in a chill mood, they are worth checking out. And if you’ve never heard of them (just like I hadn’t), do yourself a favour and check them out on their MySpace page or watch their video for “Sad Song” below.

  1. Nice! I saw them open for Peter, Bjorn & John, and one of the ladies (don’t remember which) came out to sing whatsherface’s part (the female vocalist, again, don’t remember her name - man I’m useless) part on “Young Folks”. It sounded soooo pretty!
