Watch the MTV EMAs this Sunday with Matt Wells on his 12 step recovery

    November 5th, 2010

Hello, my name is Matt, and I am an award showaholic. Award shows fill me with rage and hate; they hurt me so good that I keep going back for more. I love the awkwardness of them, I love the juxtaposition of the people who take them totally seriously and the ones who don’t give a rat’s ass. I long for the bad acceptance speech and I pine for some crazy shit to go down. I love sitting in my living room while yelling out my predictions and spreading my music jadedness virus around the room. I love gawking at the eye candy and the questionable fashion, smiling at the highs, laughing at the lows and sitting anxiously waiting for that epic awards show moment to go down. But most of all, I just love scrutinizing the shit out of every single second. It’s awesome.

Matt Wells on Michael Jackson’s Death

    June 26th, 2009

I’m still in the sinking phase of the death of MJ today, I literally saw the news on TV and then got a call to come into work and go live on air to talk about it, so there wasn’t much time for me to really figure out how I feel-even as I type it’s [...]

    Matt Wells: Protest Music

    March 23rd, 2009

Once upon a time music and politics were mixed in a way that didn’t seem fake, it wasn’t the trendy thing to do and protest songs were written truly to create conversation and rally people to make a change. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not absent from music today – everyone from Kanye West to [...]

Matt Wells: Things I like that go well together VS Things I like that do not

    March 13th, 2009

And now it’s time for my first and last weekly installment of: “Things I like that go well together VS Things I like that do not” To give you an example of what I mean: I like brushing my teeth and I also like orange juice, however, the two DO NOT go well together. On [...]

Matt Wells: Michael Jackson’s Return To The Stage

    March 6th, 2009

So Michael Jackson is apparently hitting the stage for his first real tour in like 10 years. Now it’s very true, nobody has made it easier for us to make a Michael Jackson joke than MJ himself; I get it- he’s weird. I also can only hope (not for MJ’s sake but for the sake [...]

    Matt Wells: Music Threat Assessment

    February 27th, 2009

Rolling Stone magazine has a section called “Threat Assessment: The Good, The Bad, And The Scary”. It’s always in the National Affairs part of the mag and basically shows a diagram of things and people the magazine defines as good for America or bad for America. Simply put, The War in Iraq is considered “Against [...]

The Oscars Bung Up “Best Original Song” Category

    February 20th, 2009

Last year the Oscars got it right just nominating Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for Best Original Song Written For A Motion Picture; the fact that their song Falling Slowly from the movie Once actually won…still gives me chills thinking about it. This year, however, the Oscars have totally messed it up.

Manu Dibango vs. Michael Jackson & Rihanna

    February 13th, 2009

So the name Manu Dibango may not mean anything to you, but about 10 of his syllables may ring a bell: he sued Michael Jackson back in the day over MJ’s hit Wanna be Startin’ Somethin’ because Dibango claimed that “Ma Ma Se, Ma Ma Sa, Ma Ma Coo Sa,” was ripped off from his [...]

    Matt: Read Modesty Blaise

    Matt: Read Modesty Blaise

    January 23rd, 2009

I’m usually not really into reading fiction novels. I’m a movie geek -I like my facts and real life from books and get my fiction fix from film (kickass unintentional alliteration!). However…every now and then I find a book that blows my mind that has nothing to do with music or real life. I just [...]
