It’s going to be a Canadian affair when Avril Lavigne and Nickelback front man Chad Kroeger walk down the aisle. After six months of quietly dating, 37 year-old Kroeger proposed to 27 year-old Lavigne with a 14-carat diamond ring, according to People Magazine. This will be Kroeger’s first marriage and Lavigne’s second after she previously wed Sum 41′s Deryck Whibley in 2009.

The two began spending time together earlier this year to work on Lavgine’s fifth studio album. They were spotted together spending time in Paris earlier this spring, but have stayed relatively under the radar. Lavigne had a public relationship with reality star Brody Jenner, son of Olympian Bruce Jenner and step-brother to the Kardashian clan, between 2009 and 2012.

News this big has of course taken over the Twitter-verse, already spawning the new couple name #Chavril and gaining attention from celebrities like Zach Braff and Adam Levine, who cleared up any Levine/Lavigne confusion with the tweet “Just to clear up the confusion, I am NOT engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickleback.” Avril Lavigne has been busy on Twitter as well, re-tweeting messages of congratulations and thanking friends and fans for their support.

Damn. That was some haircut.
