Avril Turning Japanese?

March 12th, 2007

Word has it Avril’s hoping to branch out to her international fanbase by releasing new single “Girlfriend” in several different languages.

As a couple of friends and I discussed this past weekend, this isn’t an entirely new concept - The Beatles recorded German versions of songs like “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and “Saw Her Standing There” back in the day, and Shakira, J-Lo, Celine, and a host of others have done it recently too.

But Avril’s taken it a step further, releasing the single in EIGHT languages: English, Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Apparently Hindi was attempted as well, but it turned out the language’s pacing couldn’t properly match up with the song’s rhythm.

Avril reportedly spent hours studying each foreign language before going into the studio to record the new versions.

OK seriously - check these out!

  9. I love how they have to edit the Chinese version so she says certain words fast enough. what is the point of translating the songs, its not like if she goes on tour in those places she will have all her songs translated and memorized for that language, and she definitely doesn’t know those other languages, if she did then the whole song would be translated, I would think!
