Awkward Ep. 2: Sex, Lies and the Sanctuary

July 6th, 2012

Last week Jenna chose Jake over New Years Eve and Matty passed out on the couch with Sadie. You’d think things would be settled by now but the awkward-ness still is there. Watch the latest episode of Awkward. Sex, Lies and the Sanctuary here! Shall we get into it? Read on for the recap!

So, Jenna and Jake are headed into new relationship bliss… until they walk onto a potential landmine the shape of a surveillance camera which has been pointed directly into The Sanctuary. If you don’t recall from last season, The Sanctuary is the space underneath the bleachers where the kids get it on and then some.

Yep, that looks mighty … scary.

Jenna must figure out whether or not the surveillance footage has anything that could incriminate Matty and Jenna. Again, Jake doesn’t know about them and it would be incredibly bad for Jenna and Jake’s relationship if he found out. Which will happen, I predict (the truth always comes out). It would be bad if Jake found out via videotape so Jenna goes to great lengths to make sure that doesn’t happen.

So who does Jenna turn to? Right, her Asian bestie, Ming. Because everyone knows that “the Asians” know things faster than the average Joe, Tamara and Jenna get Ming to infiltrate “the Asians” at the school so they can find out the 411 on whether or not Jenna made the tape.

In probably the most hilarious exchange ever on Awkward, Ming and Becca broker a deal… and Ming is now an insider with “the Asians”.

Meanwhile at home Jenna is still frustrated with her mother for writing the letter. The “Carefrontation” letter that broke Jenna and caused the whole “that girl” debacle of her fifteen year old self. The secret of the letter has been kept from Jenna’s father who instantly wonders what is going on but ends up still not knowing.

At school the next day Matty and Jake are in the locker room and Jake confides in Matty that he is jealous of the guy who Jenna lost her virginity to. Matty tells Jake not to be upset with Jenna because of something that happened before Jake and Jenna’s relationship, but Jake says it isn’t that she lost her virginity but moreso that she was in love with the guy. Which prompts Matty to run to Jenna… and tell her that he loves her.

Great. Matty told her that he loves her. What is a girl to do now with this information?

As Jenna ponders what to do, Jake tells her that he’s going to get over the fact that she was with someone else because she’s with him now and that’s all that matters. Jake is such a standup guy.

Jenna tells Tamara that she won’t tell Jake about Matty, but Tamara warns Jenna of taking the easy way out.

Jenna and Matty aren’t on the tape (thankfully) and Ming goes to tell the girls the news. Afterwards she thanks Becca who reminds her that Ming will have to repay the favour eventually… someday. Yikes. Matty texts Jenna and tells her to meet him in The Sanctuary.

Matty wanted to rejoice over the fact that Jenna and he were not on the tape however, Jenna shuts down his party and tells him that despite the earlier “I love you”, she didn’t ever want to be anyone’s secret and didn’t want to keep the secret from Jake anymore. But Matty asks her to keep it because he lost her and didn’t want to lose Jake too. Jenna then leaves Matty alone in The Santuary.

Who else is kinda sad now? Go watch the episode again here and don’t miss Awkward. on Thursdays at 10:30pm ET/ 7:30pm PT right here on MuchMusic.
