Awkward. Ep 5: My Love is a Black Heart

It’s Valentine’s Day on Awkward. and Jenna is relieved to finally have a boo to call her own. However, Matty seems really into this new freshman, Ming and Tamara are single as all heck, and they’re not the only ones harboring a lonely heart. You ready to get through this episode with me? So Jenna and Matty talk, and Matty asks Jenna what the perfect Valentine’s Day date would be. Jenna describes her perfect night: tulips, her fave restaurant, hand holding. See, she thinks that Matty is asking on behalf of Jake and gets really excited for their date.

However Tamara is going through a little bit of Ricky Schwartz hell. Ming informs her that the Asian Mafia has it on good authority that Ricky is in love and Tamara refuses to believe it.

Jenna sees Matty talking to the Freshman and she gets jealous. She doesn’t want to be and goes to Val for advice. Though Val is no longer the counsellor, as Vice Principle, her advice has gotten actually better but tells Jenna what she doesn’t want to hear: she’s feeling jealous because she’s actually jealous.

At home, Jenna’s dad comes and drops her off while her mom watches and anxiously waits to see if he has Valentine’s Day plans. Unfortunately he doesn’t bite and leaves.

Later that night Jenna goes on her date with Jake… only to find Matty there with his date. Looks like Matty took her fave date and used it as inspiration for his date. Yipes.

Hard to compete with a girl who seems so wholesome and pretty. This probably feels like when I was going through a Jake Gyllenhaal phase and Taylor Swift was dating him. Jenna, I feel you girl.

Yep, definitely awkward.

Ming and Tamara go to the Black Hearts Dance (a dance for single girls and guys) and while Tamara tries to find Ricky (and yell at him, perhaps?) Ming finds herself with a cute boy.

They definitely hook up. Just in time for Tamara to find Ricky Schwartz making out with … Sadie Saxton?!

After a Valentine’s Day date to forget, Jake gives Jenny lilies instead of tulips which would perturb Jenna but she welcomes the new with open arms. And then Jake says “I love you.” and Jenna says, “Awesome.”
