I love snacks. Most times I’d rather have a selection of snacks rather than a meal – it’s so much more fun that way. To celebrate the art of snacking, here’s my list of the snacks that rocked my world in 2008. Don’t laugh!! I’m being very serious.
10. Dill Pickles

Not those store-bought in-a-jar junk pickles (I’m such a snob) – give me a big, sour deli pickle and I’ll love you forever.
9. Real Fruit Gummies

When I met Chrissy, she told me that Real Fruit Gummies make her heart beat faster. Two things happened from this statement: 1) she became my favourite new person of 2008 and 2) we bought a bag and did a very scientific experiment. Verdict? She was right.
8. Cocoa Krispies

Cereal in general is tops on my list, but Cocoa Krispies played a big part in 2008. With vanilla rice milk? Hello, dinner!
7. Cheese Nips

A perennial favourite. When I go to the States I have to buy their sassier cousin Cheez-Its … but I still haven’t decided which cheese cracker is the ultimate best.
6. Grapes

Gimme a bowl of grapes and a television set and I’m a happy camper for the night. Of course, experience enhanced by addition of cheese and (sshhh) *wine*.
5. Banana Bread

The store across the street makes the ~best~ banana bread, and I probably averaged 1-2 pieces per week. Chocolate chip or plain .. just depends on your mood.
4. Miss Vickie’s Salt ‘n Vinegar Chips

A Must-Eat addition when I buy Subway for lunch. Can’t eat a sandwich without them now!
3. Cadbury Mini Eggs

Out of all the chocolate, these suckers only come out at Easter and are good enough to still make this list. Step your game up, other chocolate.
2. Watermelon

Thanks to my friendly neighbourhood grocery, I can buy pre-cubed watermelon for $2 anytime I want. Don’t hate, participate!
1. Cheese and Crackers

A fancy cheese shoppe opened on my street in October, and I spent more $$ there on cheese than I had in the past three years. So worth it though, oh my god.
Honourable mentions: Doritos Collisions, hummus, guacamole, pint of raspberries, soft serve twist ice cream, ataulfo mangoes, stroopwaffles, pumpkin spice donut
What were your favourite snacks in 2008? Did you go on a macadamia cookie binge in April? Snacks are awesome, let’s talk about them.
