Beyonce goes to extremes to keep new music safe

July 26th, 2012

After her last album 4 was leaked before its release, Beyonce and her team are reportedly going to great lengths to ensure the singer’s new disc doesn’t hit the web early. While talking to BBC Newsbeat, Conor Maynard explained “I’ve heard some mad stories. With Beyonce, I heard that with her people they’ll make sure that there’s no-one in the studio. They go into the studio, wipe it, set up one new session for her to record. Once she’s finished recording they move it onto a hard drive. They wipe the studio computer again and then leave.”

Maynard goes on to say that not all musicians are worried about their music leaking early, saying “There are some artists like Drake who leaks his own stuff to start a hype, a buzz. He’ll leak tracks that aren’t going to be used on the album. So people pay for it because they haven’t heard it yet.”

For his part, Conor has been performing unreleased songs live off his debut disc Contrast, due out next week on July 31st.

According to One Republic front man Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote Beyonce’s huge hits Halo and I Was Here with the singer, Beyonce is looking to release two albums in 2013. The two discs will most likely consist of a traditional pop album and a soundtrack to A Star Is Born, the Clint Eastwood directed remake that Beyonce is rumoured to be starring in next year.
