Beyoncé released a new song titled, Bow Down/I Been On, on her official Tumblr last night. This is her first new song in two years and is expected to be on her upcoming fifth album.
The song was produced by Hit Boy and runs for three minutes and 34 seconds. The first part of the song has Beyoncé repeatedly singing, “Bow down, b*tches” to a hardcore beat, before closing it opera-style. Sasha Fierce is only around for about a minute, before an unknown rapper takes control.
It would be surprising if Beyoncé actually releases this as a single. Not only does it have too much profanity to censor for a radio friendly edit, it also just lacks a commercial friendly sound.
Been Down/I Been On sounds like filler material. I would expect it from a young ingénue who is trying to be more provocative, not a superstar singer who has been dominating music for decades. If Rihanna was the first thing that popped in your mind just now, you’re definitely not alone in thinking that.
Beyoncé’s Mrs. Carter World Tour starts on June 28. Her fifth also album will also be out this year, but has no official release date.
